ATHENS – While Kirby Smart was preparing the Georgia Bulldogs for the upcoming 2022 season, he saw plenty of his top commitments and targets have dominant games over the weekend.
Dawg Post was in attendance for multiple games in week one of the football season and we confirmed that other commits had giant season-opening games as well.
One top commitment, four-star linebacker CJ Allen, proved why he’s the top linebacker in Georgia with a giant performance against Wilcox County. The 6-foot-1 220-pounder ran wild on Friday night, rushing 15 times for 233 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also started on defense, racking up 8 tackles on the night. He runs extremely well for his size and he’s one of the toughest, strongest defenders in the South.

5-star defensive back AJ Harris also had a monster season-opening game. The Alabama native made 8 tackles, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery, and one touchdown against a strong Hewitt-Trussville team in Alabama. Not only did Harris show elite cover skills and impressive ball skills, he also showed toughness and the ability to help against the run. He’s a technician in coverage, but he’s also a willing tackler who will bring a physical presence to Georgia’s secondary.

Defensive line commitment Jamaal Jarrett has a big game, making 5 tackles and one sack from his interior defensive line position, leading Grimsley (NC) to a victory.

Wide receiver Yazeed Haynes confirmed to Dawg Post that he caught 5 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns in his season opener. His speed and explosiveness were on full display, and if he has any room to run, he’s going to score plenty of touchdowns this season. He was clearly the best player on the field in his ballgame, and it will likely be that way throughout his senior season.

Cornerback commitment Daniel Harris told Dawg Post that he had one forced fumble, three tackles and 40 receiving yards in his team’s victory over the weekend, but added that his numbers could’ve been better if he had played longer in the game.
“I was taken out at the half because it was a blowout.”
Linebacker commitment Raylen Wilson’s team had a “jamboree” over the weekend where he made 4 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.
UCLA RB commitment Roderick Robinson, who recently said he hears from Georgia “a good bit” and “trying” to make a UGA game this fall, had a monster opening game, rushing just 8 times for 186 yards and four touchdowns. He’s an out-of-state running back target to keep an eye on.
