ATHENS - Did the Georgia Bulldogs just land the next Jordan Davis?

That may sound crazy, but that’s exactly what Kirby Smart and Tray Scott are hoping for after landing a commitment from massive 6-foot-5 340-pound defensive tackle, Jamaal Jarrett‍.

Just like Davis, Jarrett is a North Carolina native with plenty of size and quickness in the middle of the trenches. This comes as no surprise to Dawg Post members as we’ve been reporting for months now that the big Grimsley (NC) defender has been leaning towards Georgia all year.

The Bulldogs were always going to be tough to beat for Jarrett, and with the help of Jordan Davis, who came to Athens and met with Jarrett during his official visit, they were able to land his commitment.

“Be the next Jordan Davis” was Georgia’s pitch to Jarrett throughout his recruitment, and he spoke about that to Dawg Post.

“Their plan is to try and make me another Jordan Davis type”, Jarrett said. “The big man in the middle. Tray Scott’s tough love and style of coaching will definitely get me right.”

Jarrett had no problem admitting that it feels good to hear his name mentioned with the great Jordan Davis.

“It’s awesome when they bring up Jordan Davis when speaking to me”, Jarrett said.  “He’s a North Carolina guy and so is coach Scott. A lot of guys get stuck in North Carolina so to see a North Carolina dude make it out it made me want to get out as well.”

So what will Jarrett bring to Athens?

Size, toughness, and impressive quickness.

As big as he is, Jarrett is quick off the ball and can blow up any particular play. He’s a guy who demands a double-team as he’s just too big and strong for one offensive lineman to handle.

He clogs the middle of the line, and like Davis did at Georgia, allows the linebackers behind him to roam free and make a play on the ball carrier. He has a great motor, and when he gets to the back, he knows how to deliver a big hit.

Jarrett is exactly what the Bulldogs were looking for in this current 2023 class. The staff needed a dominant force in the middle of their defensive line and Jarrett was high on their board from the very beginning.

Jarrett is the guy Tray Scott and company wanted, and they fought off North Carolina, Auburn and Clemson for his commitment.

As a junior in 2023, playing on both sides of the line of scrimmage, Jarrett made 35 tackles, 8 TFLs, 3 sacks, 2 QB hurries, 2 forced fumbles, and deflected 2 passes.

Jarrett is ranked in the 247 Composite Rankings as the No. 26 DL prospect and the No. 3 overall prospect in North Carolina in the 2023 class.
