ATHENS - One of the top prospects in the class of 2023 has committed to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs

AJ Harris‍, a defensive back from Phenix City, Alabama, said on social media Thursday that he had picked the Bulldogs over the Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators and Alabama Crimson Tide. Harris was getting set to officially visit the Gators this weekend before the news broke on Thursday evening. He is the Bulldogs’ 10th commit of the 2023 cycle.

“5-star AJ Harris committing is a massive pickup for the Georgia Bulldogs,” Dawg Post recruiting analyst Matt DeBary said. “Harris was a strong Florida lean earlier this spring, but him deciding to skip his official visit to Florida this weekend and commit to Fran Brown and the Bulldogs is pretty big.”

The Phenix City, Alabama native has said he considers himself a Georgia native as Columbus is right across the river from his home. The pickup for the Dawgs, according to DeBary, is significant.

“He’s long, athletic, and technically sound,” DeBary said. “He shows great footwork, cover skills and playmaking ability. He’s a five-star prospect for a reason due to his natural cover skills, length and instincts. Harris was a top target for Kirby Smart and his staff since the beginning of his recruitment. This is a big loss for the Gators and a massive pickup for the Bulldogs.”

Harris was hard to miss a season ago while playing for Central. His junior season he made 31 tackles and two forced fumbles. But Harris accounted for 479 total yards on offense with seven total touchdowns. Harris scored five times on returns.
