ATHENS - The Georgia Bulldogs did something it doesn’t typically do in the most recent transfer portal cycle by bringing in an offensive lineman.

Kirby Smart recruited offensive tackle TyQuez Richardson to join the Dawgs this fall. Georgia saw four offensive lineman depart Athens through the portal and have two going through the NFL Draft process right now. With potential first round left tackle Monroe Freelings and a handful of his potential replacements out the door, Richardson was brought in to add another body at tackle.

Richardson was not heavily recruited out of high school. 247 Sports didn’t have a star rating for him. He went to Mays High School in Atlanta and enrolled at Alabama A&M. A member of the 2024 high school class, Richardson redshirted his first college season. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Standing at about 6’5” and 330 pounds, Richardson has the size to play on Georgia’s offensive line. Is there a clear path for him to get on the field? Not so much, but we don’t typically see Georgia go after offensive lineman through the portal.

Freeling and fellow draft candidate Micah Morris’ departures do leave questions regarding the starting offensive line for Georgia to answer. The next starting left tackle at Georgia is a spot that is up for grabs.

Earnest Greene III is the longest tenured Bulldog on the roster. He has the most tackle experience and could certainly get the bulk of the reps at left tackle. He is a prime candidate to start at one of the most important spots on the field. The biggest player on Georgia’s roster, Jahzare Jackson, is getting looks at tackle this spring as well.

Juan Gaston Jr, a five-star from the 2025 class,  got some work at both tackle and guard in his freshman season. He is a key player in deciding the offensive line depth as one of the only ones we have seen play both positions.

True freshman Ekene Ogboko was one of Georgia’s highest rated recruits in the 2026 class. He is thought to be a future left tackle for Georgia. Dontrell Glover and Gaston showed that freshmen can get on the field.

Daniel Calhoun and Michael Uini give the Dawgs some flexibility as guards.

Richardson has a lot of competition to get on the field, but Georgia needs tackles. At the very minimum, he provides depth at a position that was gutted in the offseason.
