ATHENS - New Georgia Bulldog wide receiver Isaiah Canion spoke with reporters this week about his transfer from Georgia Tech, the wide receivers, and his mindset heading into the 2026 season.
On why he chose Georgia out of the transfer portal...
“they just check all the boxes. I mean, everybody knows what kind of program we have here. great coaches, great competition. They're known for developing players and just checked on my boxes as why I decided to come here.”
On the biggest adjustment...
honestly, the transition from moving out of the city, that's that was a big thing. It took a while to get back used to Athens a lot like my hometown. So it took a lot of took a minute to get back acclimated to being outside the city for sure.”
On watching Georgia football growing up...
“Everybody from Georgia watches Georgia football. So I grew up watching it. My family are Georgia fans. So yeah, for sure. I was excited when they hit me up.”
On playing with high school teammates Isaiah Gibson and Rasean Dinkins...
“They’re family. We grew up playing since we were like, yay big, played AAU basketball, tribal football. So that's just like having 2 brothers on the team for sure.
On the similarities between Georgia and Georgia Tech...
“They're both good programs. I'm really not here to do comparisons. I'm really big on being where my feet are so my focus is getting ready for the season and being the best player I can be to help my team.”
On helping Georgia be more explosive while practicing against the Bulldog secondary...
“The defense is very talented. They’ve got playmakers everywhere on defense. I just focus on doing my job and my job is to make plays when the ball comes my way and be where I’m supposed to be.
On building chemistry with Gunner Stockton...
“I'm very comfortable. I'm very, very happy. We're good. I'm happy to be here. I’m happy he's my quarterback. He's a vet. He’s very tough. He’s a competitor. I'm very excited to get rolling and I'm very excited for how the year is going to go.”
On his relationship with Georgia in high school...
I knew Bobo out of high school. He recruited, he recruited me out of high school a little bit, and then Crawford, he recruited me to go to Tech, and then he ended up coming here. So that was a very familiar phase. We had lots of dialogue and Obviously, it worked out.”
On coach Coley...
Coley is a great coach. I admire him. He's a good leader. He can teach technique, scheme, coverages, anything like that. He's helping me. Iv’e learned a lot about coverage since I've been here because our defense runs so many coverages. So I'd probably say that's the biggest piece.”
On critics of the wide receivers...
“I don't read much into it. I just know we’ve got a good group. We’re a close knit, tight group tight. A lot of guys are young, but they're hungry to show they can make plays and help the team win and whatever other ways we need to be.”
On coming in as a veteran...
“That was definitely an adjustment coming and being one of the older guys because at my previous stop, they were older, much older in the receiver room. So me coming here I feel like I was pushed outside my comfort zone to be a leader and kind of helped bring the guys along in whatever ways I could. I'm very excited about the young guys, honestly. They're coming a long way and I'm just happy to see them developed and get better day by day.”
On practicing against Ellis Robinson...
“Iron sharpen is iron, and every time I line up against him I know I'm getting a game rep. So just showing up and practicing against a good corner like that every day, you do get better.”
On controlling drops...
“I mean, drops happen. They're gonna happen. You just can't dwell on them. You have to move on and worry about make the next play. You can't focus on what's in the past. You just move forward to be where your feet are. I'm real big on that.”
On transfering to a rival school...
“I mean, they welcome me with open arms. They made the transition easy. I knew a lot of the Georgia guys before I got here so it was easy to get acclimated to the locker room and all that.”
