ATHENS - One of the most intriguing transfer portal additions that the Georgia Bulldogs made this offseason was the recruitment of quarterback Bryson Beaver.
Ranked as a four-star prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, Beaver was committed to Oregon and set to enroll early, but used the portal to switch his commitment to UGA. After a hectic week in January where Dylan Raiola transferred to Oregon and starting quarterback Dante Moore announced his decision to forgo the NFL Draft and return to the Ducks, Beaver switched gears to Georgia.
Despite every quarterback from last year’s roster returning this season, Kirby Smart and his staff decided to go out and add a fifth player to that position group. The Dawgs were originally going to do this anyway with consensus five-star and ultra talented Jared Curtis, but he flipped to Vanderbilt on signing day. Nonetheless, Georgia ended up with a quarterback in this recruiting class.
Make no mistake, Gunner Stockton is the starting quarterback for the Dawgs as he returns for his fifth and final season of college football and his second as the lead signal-caller. Ryan Puglisi, entering his redshirt sophomore season, will be the second-string once again. Ryan Montgomery is the likely QB3 for Georgia, but that is probably where the competition will start between him, fellow 2025 recruit Hezekiah Millender, and Beaver.
Beaver was ranked as a top-200 recruit and the No. 14 overall quarterback in the class according to 247Sports’ recruiting metrics. The incoming freshman is listed at 6’2.5” and around 200 lbs.
On tape, Beaver clearly possesses arm strength and mobility. His highlight reels include many off-platform throws on the run. He seems to have a good awareness of when to maneuver the pocket and get outside in order to make a play.
The question that you have to ask in modern college football is will he end up at Georgia for the duration of his career? He will almost certainly redshirt this season, so he will have four years after that of eligibility.
If things go “according to plan” for Georgia, Puglisi will be the Dawgs’ starting quarterback in 2027 and 2028 for his redshirt junior and senior seasons. Then Montgomery could follow a similar timeline.
Something else to consider is that Jayden Wade, the top quarterback in the 2028 class, is committed to Georgia. If he ended up being the real deal, he could compete for time early on in his career like it was assumed for Curtis in 2027 in Athens.
If Puglisi continues to develop behind the scenes, then Georgia’s quarterback situation is set for the three upcoming seasons.
Regardless of assumptions, Beaver is another young and talented thrower that Georgia now has to work with in the near future.
