ATHENS - Georgia Bulldog head coach Kirby Smart went back down to his old stomping grounds this week.

Good ole, South Georgia.

There’s always impressive talent there and Smart went down to check on some top wide receiver targets and more.

Here’s who Smart went to see...

New 2027 WR target Marquis Fennell‍ got a visit from Smart on Thursday when the Bulldog head coach stopped by Valdosta. Fennell, one of the more versatile and dynamic players across the state, earned his offer from the Dawgs last week.

“I couldn’t stop smiling after the offer”, Fennell told Dawg Post. “I know they love to get their slot guys the ball in space and let them do what they do. That’s what I excel at.”

The impressive Valdosta playmaker ran for 1,480 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground while catching 53 passes for 764 yards and 10 more scores. He wa sone of the more productive players across Georgia last year and someone that Bulldog fans need to have a close eye on in the 2027 class.

Kirby Smart also made sure to stop by Lee County (GA) to check on 2027 wide receiver Jaden Upshaw‍, one of the top overall receivers not only in Georgia, but across the South. The big, sure-handed receiver stands at 6-foot-2 185-pounds and is coming off a giant junior season where he caught 47 passes for 902 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s currently ranked as the No. 15 WR prospect and the No. 99 overall prospect in the country.

Of course, Smart wasn’t leaving South Georgia without stopping by Thomas County Central. One of the best overall prospects in the state and one of the best 2025 teams across the country, Thomas County Central is loaded with talent including 2027 receiver, Jabari Watkins‍. The 6-foot-2 180-pounder hauled in 55 passes last season for 847 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets, leading them to another state championship. He’s ranked as the No. 38 WR prospect and the No. 302 overall prospect in the 2027 class.

Georgia’s head coach also stopped by Colquitt County (GA) during his South Georgia trip. This is home to new 2027 receiver target, Antwann Lockett. A speedy wideout who can create separation and fly down the field after the catch, Lockett is a big-play machine coming off a dominant junior season for the Packers. One of the biggest playmakers in the area, the 6-foot-0 175-pounder from Moultrie caught 40 passes last season for 811 yards and 10 touchdowns.
