ATHENS - If there’s a “breakout” Georgia Bulldog defender to keep an eye on this fall, Raylen Wilson might be the guy.

Entering year three, Wilson played in all 14 games last fall with one start against Tennessee. The muscular 6-foot-1 235-pounder made 47 total tackles with seven TFLs. and 1.5 sacks. He made a season-high seven tackles against the Gators and two big TFLs against Texas in the SEC Championship game.

He’s fast, physical, and expected to be one of Georgia’s starting linebackers as a junior this year.

After a strong spring, Wilson has been working out and training with former Bulldog linebacker, Marcus Howard.

The former Georgia pass-rusher is a well-respected trainer in Georgia who works with current NFL players, current college football stars, and some of the top high school prospects in Georgia, including five-star linebacker and major Georgia target, Tyler Atkinson.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the Duke Blue Devils have +1100 odds to win the NCAA national championship next year.

Let’s be clear, here. Marcus Howard knows what he’s doing. He played for the Dawgs from 2005-2007, dominating in his final season. He made an impact in ‘05 and ‘06, but in ‘07, Howard started all 13 games and achieved First-team All-SEC honors after recording 41 tackles, 10.5 sacks (1st in the SEC), and three forced fumbles. He made two sacks against the Gators, two sacks against Kentucky, and three sacks with two forced fumbles and a defensive touchdown against Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. He finished his career with 79 tackles, 12 sacks, and four forced fumbles.

Howard knows excellent linebacker play and knows the Dawgs have a good one in Wilson.

“Raylen is working on adding some tools to his bag”, Howard told Dawg Post. “He’s already super athletic. Very twitchy. 1st-round twitchy. He’s working on his hands and different type of ways for block destruction. He’s a Dawgs! He’s one of them.”

Georgia Bulldog defensive coordinator also shared thoughts about Wilson last season.

“He’s been really vocal”, Schumann said. “He’s a great signal caller. He’s really serious about how he goes about his business. He stood out when he was a freshmen because he was trying to get on the field. He hasn’t become complacent at all. And once he’s been on the field, he’s hungrier for more every day. He practices really hard.”

One again, the Dawgs are loaded with hungry, talented linebackers. CJ Allen is a returning starter and could be one of the best not only in the SEC, but across the country next year.

However, don’t sleep on Raylen Wilson. Second-year backups Chris Cole and Justin Williams should make an impact too, but if Wilson continues to work hard and keeps improving this summer, he has a chance to open a lot of eyes across the country. Don’t be surprised if year three is a massive one for Raylen Wilson.
