ATHENS - Nobody is doing it better than Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs on the recruiting trail right now.

After landing a 5-star commitment last week from top-ranked quarterback Jared Curtis, the Dawgs land a commitment today from one of the top overall defenders in the Peach State.

That would be four-star safety, Jordan Smith‍.

A long-time 2026 target out of Houston County (GA), Smith is a sure-tackling, instinctive safety with a promising 6-foot-2 195-pound frame who chose the in-state Bulldogs over Tennessee, Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, Florida, among others.

Now, one of the state’s best is staying home.

Here’s what Smith had to say about Georgia after taking in a spring practice back in March...

“As far as how the practice went I learned a lot about some of Kirby’s philosophies on coaching the defensive side”, Smith told Dawg Post. “My biggest takeaway would be the way the players responded from being coached. They weren’t getting defensive or insulted but they actually applied what the coaches told them. It goes to show the trust they have in the coaches and the standard they have in Athens. That’s definitely something that caught my eye every time with Georgia.”

What will Smith bring to Athens?

Size, versatility, and strong instincts.

A do-it-all type of player for Houston County, Smith lined up at both safety and cornerback for the Bears last fall while being a major weapon in the return game.

He’s a natural playmaker in the secondary who covers a lot of ground down the field against the pass. He’s also a stout run defender with a nose for the football. He’s a fundamentally sound tackler who wraps up correctly and doesn’t miss many tackles. He reacts quickly and consistently finds his way to the ball-carrier in order to make a play. He made play after play last year and saw his ranking rise more and more over time. He also has a frame that should allow him to continue adding weight once he gets to Athens. He’s not a burner, but he plays fast and has enough speed to cover speedy wideouts down the field. There’s a lot to like about his game, and his best football is way, way down the road.

As a junior last fall for the Houston County Bears, Smith made an impressive 85 tackles, three TFLs, and two INTs in coverage with seven more pass-breakups. He also added one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Smith is currently ranked as the No. 6 safety prospect and the No. 75 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 class.
