ATHENS - Georgia Bulldog wide receiver Sacovie White-Helton spoke with the media recently to talk about Georgia’s offense this upcoming season.
On the offense being more explosive...
“Blocking down the field helps the run game being more explosive. So does play-action. I believe that helps open up the passing game. Being able to go five, six plays in a row definitely helps us be explosive. Also not being tired when they need us the most.”
On Gunner Stockton...
“I’ve watched him grow as it relates to staying in the pocket. Everyone knows he can run, and that's one of his strengths, but him being able to stand in pocket and look downfield definitely helps us get open and gives us more time to run our routes and make decisions going across the middle. He has a lot more touch. It comes down to him believing in himself, and he has the utmost confidence in himself and we do too. So as long as we tell him that we're confident in whatever decision he makes we will live with it. I feel like he can throw the ball down the field wherever it needs to be.”
On learning from Zach Branch...
“Definitely route definition. Depth of the routes. The speed and timing of the routes that he used. Not everything needs to be 100 miles an hour, but being able to get out of your break, whether it's coming back to the ball or running downfield, I definitely took that from him.”
On practicing against Georgia’s cornerbacks...
“It forces you to go get the ball. Ellis could play receiver if he wanted to, to be honest. But I believe that his ball skills forces us to jump up and go get the ball. We can't let the ball come down to us. So I think that him guarding us allows us to attack the ball.”
On Cole Speer...
“His value is his experience of being here for three to four years, and if he decides to come back he can help the young guys. You know, it's not just me and London and Isaiah in the room with playing experience. He's been here since before I got here and before London so he definitely could help with the experience, and being able to calm people down.
On Craig Dandridge...
“Craig is definitely very, very explosive. As of right now,he's one of the top freshmen right now, doing what he needs to do, and we all believe in him. I think it comes down to confidence for him. Allowing him to tell himself, Hey, I'm good to go out. for a reason, and I'm at this school for a reason. His confidence is through the roof and if he keeps that throughout the season he'll have a really good year for us.”
On being in a bigger role...
“It just helps me add value to my role for whenever I decide to get ready to go to the Draft. It gives a team in the NFL a better chance of drafting me because they know that I play special teams and I'm committed to it.”
On the question marks surrounding the receivers...
We decided to keep our heads down and keep working. We believe that hard work pays off and whatever happens on the outside, people have opinions about everything. One week they may like you and one week, they may not. We're focused on one goal, and that's getting to a national championship. And we all understand that the role we need to have for this team to be where we need to be at the end of January. We’re definitely not listening to somebody outside of here.”
On the running backs...
“Condition. They're in tremendous shape. They run probably 60 yards down the field after every run. That's implying that we're running through tackles, and they're trusting the fact that we're gonna block on the outside. So I feel like the condition and the shape that they're in definitely helped them run through that wall.”
On Talyn Taylor...
“Very fast. He’s physical and can play any position. He's really smart and he takes care of his body. I think that's the most important thing as a young player. A lot of them figured that out going into their third, fourth year, but once you figured that out at a young age that you need to take care of your body, it's just important. It’s taking care of your body outside of the facility and he's already figured that out. He's going to be a tremendous player for us.
On a special trait the team has...
“Leadership. We all hold each other accountable to anything and everything that we do. Whether it's a lift or we're running, or we're in practice, or we're doing something outside of this facility. It's accountability all across the board and leadership.”
On Kaiden Prothro...
“He's like a hybrid. Just watching a young guy be able to take all this information, to go back and forth, and come from the tight end room, and then come meet with us one day, and then go back there. For him to do that, that takes a lot of stress. And he hasn't been broken since we've been here on top of the lifting, and the late night meetings, and all that. He's really shaping into a player that that's going be an issue for people in the next couple years.”
