ATHENS - UGA Football coach Kirby Smart beat out Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks for elite five-star quarterback Jared Curtis‍.

The No. 1 QB in the country committed to Georgia early in his recruitment but opened things up to take a closer look at other programs. After narrowing his options down to Georgia and Oregon, it was the Bulldogs that won Curtis over for a second time.

Sources say the Ducks had the momentum with the Nashville Christian (TN) star early in the spring, but after a multi-day visit to Athens in mid-March, the Bulldogs were able to catch up and eventually take the lead. Now, they’ve got Curtis back on the commit list.

What will Curtis bring to Athens?

Just about everything. Curtis brings a big 6-foot-4, 225-pound frame with elite arm talent and the ability to make plays with his legs.

Curtis shows quick feet and impressive mobility in the pocket and knows how to sling the ball accurately all over the field. He can fit the ball into tight windows and has enough arm strength to launch the ball 50-plus yards down the field with ease. He can throw from different arm angles, can make big throws on the run, and knows how to hit his receivers in stride.

As a runner, Curtis has no problem taking of down the field either on designed runs or when things break down. He doesn’t mind contact and can break tackles down the field. He runs well for someone 220+ pounds and is looking to score when around the goal-line. He’s a tough, physical runner, but it’s his arm talent that makes him so special. He throws with confidence and can sling it all over the field.

There’s a reason Curtis is the top-ranked quarterback in the country. He still needs to develop and learn the Georgia offense, but he has every tool you look for in a quarterback. He has everything coaches look for and more. He’s been a big deal and a top Georgia target for a long, long time now and will push every quarterback on the roster the second he gets to campus.

As a junior last fall, Curtis threw for 2,830 yards and 40 touchdowns with just three INTs. He also ran for 637 yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground. He was named State Championship game MVP, Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year, and Tennessee’s “Mr. Football”.

Curtis is ranked as the No. 5 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 class.
