I don't know about you guys, but I'm really tired of being pushed around by USCe. They have been more physical than us in recent years. But they didn't push us around last night. And they were the ones screaming about the officials, who I thought did a pretty good job. I agreed with both of the flagrant calls. I wish this rule was enforced more to be honest. The key was I thought we defended the FT line really well. LOL We outrebounded them 45-36, and we hit 8 more FTs than they did, even though we shot the same amount. Sunahara again did nothing in 9 minutes. I don't get starting him. Tchewa got 2, count'em, 2 rebs. That's not good enough. A friend of mine texted me during the game that we don't need a 7 foot PG - so true. Get the ball out of his hands out front. He does make a good % of FTs however. Another buddy called today and complained about Anselem-Ibe playing so many minutes in the 2nd half. I thought Frank was pretty active myself. He had 5 rebs during his 14 minute stint. 3 guys in double figures and 2 just missed, so we had balanced scoring. Demary is getting better and better - 15 pts, 7 rebs and 9-12 on FTs. Those are great numbers, and he will only get better. We did not have one of our better nights from 3 - 3-13, but USCe was 6-26. Only 8 TOs on the night. I love when we are under 10. 37% from the floor is not great; that needs to improve. But all in all, a good solid win on the road.

BTW I was impressed with both coaches last night. Paris appears to be a pretty sharp guy.

Monk, any insight into White's thinking on Sunahara? Or what is going on period?

Not a good sign our leading rebounders were guards, but I'll take the W.

Continue to love the grit and moxy of this team.

sunahara is a mystery
his 6-7 frame is what white likes
the kid can play but he looks hesitant and out of his element
hope he can give us some help soon

On Sunahara, my only guess is that White has been dissatisfied with the production he's getting from others at that position, and since he has been injured, we wanted to see if RJ can give us more. But he hasn't. Sunahara just hasn't been productive, but the move to the bench of Melendez has increased our bench production quite a bit. Our bench is outscoring our opponents' bench regularly now. But there has been a cost to production from the starting lineup. You just can't have 2 starters be unproductive. Personally, I don't like even 1 starter being unproductive, but a team can handle it if the player gives you a lot of other things. In my day, Lamar Heard (RIP) took over Dominique's spot when he turned pro. Lamar could score if necessary, but his role was rebounding and defending; he was tremendous at both. He gave us intangibles and was totally unselfish. He did what was necessary for the team to succeed. I loved Lamar. I don't see that in Sunahara as yet.

I have to wonder if Sunahara is still struggling mentally with his injury. The brace is off now, so he needs to come out of his shell. Also, it just may be that the strength and athleticism at this level are a big change for him, and he may not be up to the challenge.
