For as much as the defense went through leading up to this game-losing Mel Tucker, losing DBake, having Jordan Davis DWalker not play in the game, I honestly didn't think they played badly-in fact, other than some BAD tackling (LeCounte), I was encouraged with holding Texas to 28-and honestly it could have been 42-48 with the bad snap on the punt, the shanked punt and the Swift fumble. We had three coaches working to put together the defensive gameplan and were playing without maybe 3 of our best cogs on that side of the ball-a LOT of young guys got some good snaps-including Divaad Wilson who really impressed the heck out of me as did Ojulari.

NOW, the offensive side of the ball, where do you begin. HORRIBLE play calling-very predictable-running up the middle, no toss sweeps, no jet sweeps, Nauta with one catch, Mecole with one catch, IWilson with a dreadful game-he got worked all night. Fromm with a BAD night-had guys open and throwing over their head, Swift-had he fumbled all year-fumbles twice and one was a lost fumble that set up a TD. We tried to force a square peg into a round hole with running against a stacked box, it made the job for Texas easy-stack the box, stuff run on first and second and then come after Fromm on third down. Chaney didn't have any answers for a Texas D that is not nearly as good as teams we BEAT this year.

Special teams-the punter made the mistake of letting a bad snap-which was NOT his fault causing him to take a knee, to get in his head for his second punt-but he recovered and did a nice job-he is only a FR.

Coaching-it was pretty obvious we got out coached-especially our O against their D, we lost Jay Johnson only from that side of the ball, we had a full deck of players on that side and yet we didn't even produce 300 yards, and heck most of that came in the 4th quarter when the game was decided. I am SURE Kirby did everything he could to get his players focused and fired up to play in this game but it was obvious which team wanted this game more. In the grand scheme of things, this loss doesn't sting like the Bama loss. But, I do believe this game shows that we are a young team that needs to grow up or we will not achieve the goal next year either.

Now we wait and see which JR's go. If I am Nauta, I leave after getting one touch last night, same with Mecole and Ridley. IF Chaney is going to run the ball into a stacked box and not let his QB turn it loose, not sure how those three guys benefit from staying around. EHolyfield probably should go too, I think if White is healthy it will be he and Swift next year, would love for Herrien to stay, that kid provides a spark and should have played more last night. We still have a few recruits we are waiting on and of course we will have others just leave the program-like Fields, but I am hopeful this loss will show these kids that every game matters. You beat LSU, we make the playoff, you finish against Bama we make the playoff. If you want to complain about not making the playoff, you need to dig a little deeper and do the work up front to not have to HOPE the committee puts you in the playoff-and one more thing, if you are going to go to social media to blast the committee, how about coming out angry and try to prove a point instead of coming out like you don't even care to be at the bowl.

Well, after Texas came down and scored that first time, I told my son we didn't even look like the same D without Walker, Baker and Davis out there. That would hurt anybody.
I'm curious about how Kirby addresses the O and it's lackluster performance. Chaney will get a lot of negative feedback for this. Fields needs to wait and see what's gonna happen before he jumps ship IMO.

Fields is GONE Darin, the fact he didn't take a snap, the fact he didn't meet with reporters after the game says it all. Honestly, even if JF1 ends up being a superstar, it is best for our program for him to move on because I really don't like the two QB system. I think the old saying that if you have two QB's you really don't have one is very correct. The fact is, JF1 looked like a kid that had played less than two years of HS QB when he played-yes, you could see the vast "potential" to be a superstar but you could also see that he was NOT developed and ready to be a starter but he or his family/handlers, believe he is better NOW than he truly is and so he must go. I do believe they will do whatever is necessary to get him eligible next season.

I have a hard time watching the game plan against Bama from Chaney-a team with a better defense, and then seeing what we did last night. Whether it was all on Chaney-well, I doubt that, as players have to execute and I felt our OL played a bad game last night-our SR center let some come straight up the middle and sack Fromm for example. Fromm was pressing or something because his throws lacked his usual touch-throwing high to me is usually a sign of having too much adrenaline/being pressure/stressed. We shall see how the offseason goes with players leaving, a few spots left for us to fill. Next year to me becomes a HUGE year for Kirby because so many have said this team will be his worst team in years to come. BUT, if that team falls flat in a game next year, what will we say then. Our struggles have been playing on the road in the SECw and then of course Bama. Besides Texas last night, all 4 other losses have been against SECw teams, two of being on the road and two being at neutral sites. We play at Auburn next year, that looms as a huge game-assuming we hold serve at home and can continue to dominate the East.

IMHO, Chaney doesn't know much O. He may be a great recruiter and that is great to have at UGA, but as an O person, he is lacking terribly. Very little imagination as to what to do with his RBs, very obvious calls right thorough the middle when the D is packing the hole and no idea to sweep toss the ball to outside runners, when a player is successful foing something, he goes to something else that lacks consistency. Herrien was a bulldozer our there, but after a stop...he gets out and osen't get more carries, three backs and Hollyfield only gets 12 carries, Swift 8, Herrien just a few, comme on man...!! Sweeps, tosses, etc to try to distabilize Texas and see other options. Fromm can't run to avoid tacklers and holds the ball to long and rather gets the sacks than throwing it away.

Chaney is not much of a recruiter to be honest, he rarely travels to recruit players, he will meet with them when they are on campus. As for his playcalling, it is so hot and cold, it drives me crazy-like you mentioned, ZERO toss sweeps which has always been a trademark of UGA offenses, he doesn't seem to adjust, square peg into round hole so often to me-but then against Bama, at least the last two years in the first half, the offense has been balanced and kept them on their toes-and both Bama defenses are the best we saw in both years we played them-yet he lays and egg against Texas?? Course the fumbles by Swift were bad-and something your rarely see from him-Fromm was off all night-and when he did throw a nice ball, the WR's didn't really help him. It was execution but was also play calling.

Kirby wants this style offense though I believe because he could do something about it if not. He wants a smash mouth style of offense that is ball control which keeps his defense off the field. BUT, at the same time, we rotate a LOT of bodies on defense, that is also part of the Kirby plan is having a TON of quality depth. The fact Bama went almost spread attack this year shows that Saban truly lets his OC have the flexibility to run the offense that suits his players. Are we sure Kirby allows Chaney that luxury?? I am not sure but at this point I would not blame Nauta, Ridley or Mecole for leaving early-what guarantee do they have that we will throw them the ball more next year?? We also need to stop signing a ton of WR's if we are not going to use them. Maybe 2-3 at the very most every class and one TE every class.

Against Texas, Chaney didn't fumble one time. Never once did he overthrow wide open receivers. Never once did he drop a pass that hit him in the hands. Never once did he fail to block anyone to let our QB to get sacked or be under heavy pressure. His calls would be fine if the players had shown up and played to their ability. I think our offense was fine this year. Every play is not going to be a touchdown.
