The Dawgs are getting murdered this week on many of the sports shows... They are saying that the Dawgs are overrated... They don't deserve the ranking... Fromm is not playing well... The defensive line is the Achilles heel... Missouri and Tennessee both played better than Georgia... etc...

What do y'all think???

Dawgs are 1 of 2 FBS programs that haven't trailed this season and 1 of 4 FBS programs that have won each of their first five games this season by double digits.

Since the AP Top 25 college football pollsters and coaches have UGA ranked #2 nationally, that's all I need to know (i.e., they respect UGA).

The first three games were so "easy" and smooth that anything less is seen as bad.

The OL is not at the level they were last year I think.

UGA was blowing people out in games 1-3 like Alabama, and anything less than that looks, well, less than that.

I think the guys on whatever sports shows you're talking about are just desperate for viewers/callers/listeners/whatever. Oldest trick in the book. UGA is easily the #2 team in the country (Bama is #1). Easily. The only other team who could even possibly be in the conversation is Ohio St, but they weren't that impressive vs TCU and they beat a good-but-not-great Penn St team (who needed OT to beat Appalachian State, mind you) only because the Penn St coach is too stupid to kick a FG when he needs to, or kick a PAT instead of going for 2.

Seriously, who else is there? Clemson? Nope - they struggled with what is proving to be a very average Texas A&M team, and barely put away an unranked Syracuse at home. LSU? Nope - they barely beat an Auburn team who was lucky to beat Washington and struggled with Southern Miss. And they weren't that impressive vs La Tech either. Notre Dame? Nope - they dang near lost to Vanderbilt and struggled with Ball State. That's right, Ball State. Oklahoma? Nope - they needed OT to beat Army. That's right, Army. W.Va? UCF? Kentucky? Uh, no, no, and no. Please.

Missouri and Tennessee both played better than Georgia? Holy cow, that's a REMARKABLY dumb statement. Even for someone desperate for ratings it's dumb. They both played so well they lost by 14 & 26 points. LOL! I'm glad I didn't listen to whatever show said that, because everyone who did listen became dumber for having heard it.

We're a solid #2. Deal with it.

RedDawg,

You said it best..."We are a solid #2"....So how do we ever get to be number #1. Well, it isn't by the offensive philosophy that CS and Coach Chaney is running!!!!

Number 1 high school receiver just decommitted...you think that is a coincidence??? No, it is from what he is seeing on the field...Our offense is soooo predictable...run swift..run holy...third-down short pass...really CS with all of that offensive talent we have.

Fellows, if CS doesn't change with the times and open up our offense we will not beat the elite teams of college football period!!!

Each college football season is unique in itself...stop taking about what someone did last year. The 2017 Dawgs are in the history book...we had a chance to win it all and we didn't...Hopefully CS and his staff have learned from that and stop being sooo conservative on offense and evolve. I know we all hate to admitted but someone in ALA has evolved and with it his philosophy and they look like they are unbeatable at this point!

Now, having said all of that we are not in practice seeing what the coachs see on a daily basis...we are just passionate fans that want the very best for UGA football and all of us must admit that what we are seeing isn't it.

So, RedDawg you are right...we are a solid number #2!!!!

Well, to say we are a solid #2 in the nation, out of 130+ teams? Wow...I'll raise my glass to that and say hoorah. I do agree, like me and Haney was discussing on another thread we do need to start using our WRs alot more. We got plenty of talent...MH was being quietly hinted in the Heisman talk earlier in the season. Godwin, Holliman, Ridley, Nauta, the list goes on and on. There would be no reason not to air it out you'd think. Fields was ranked ahead of Lawrence coming out of HS and bet you as soon as TL is healthy, he's gonna be slinging it all over the place at Clemson. So I don't think our coaches are looking at Fields as just a read option qb for the future. And Fromm proved in the Rose bowl that he can air it out when needed. I just wish they wouldn't wait till it IS needed to start doing that. Let him and JF start throwing the ball down field and we might just see Haselwood jump back on board.
Meanwhile, I do think this talk is silly about us being overrated. It might take beating LSU to shut everyone up....but I that's ok.....we can do that.

We have had plenty of opportunity to throw the ball more, we have had games that were perfect to work on the passing game, and now, as we sit here, we have ONE game left before our schedule begins to heat up. SO, I hope that we throw the ball more this week against Vandy, we have not yet had a 300 yard passing game-here are the splits-

AP 224 passing 284 rushing
SC 202 passing 271 rushing
MTSU 223 passing 261 rushing
Mizz 260 passing 185 rushing
UT 190 passing 251 rushing

Bama has crushed every team they have played, they have passed for 297, 321, 306, 415, and 340. Most games they have rushed for a lot of yards too. What does this tell me, we COULD and probably should be passing for more yards, but Kirby believes in running the ball, controlling the clock and getting the game over. This is fine against lesser teams but we need to start throwing/catching more so when it is needed, we have plenty of practice.

I don't believe we seem as consistently focused and sharp as we were last year. We aren't as strong in the front 7 as we were last year. Our DB play may be better. Big Trent definitely needed to come back for his Sr. year and it is now even more evident how great a player Roquan was last year.
On Offense, Chaney's playcalling baffles me some games. It is so unimaginative at times and then at other times it borders on brilliance. I still wish he would run wide with a toss sweep every now and then and I wish he would utilize our TE's in the passing game more. All this said, we have still been pretty dominating in our games.
Most of the talking heads are either suffering from SEC fatigue or their man crush on the Big slow 10 teams. They want so badly for Michigan, Penn St., and/or Notre Dame to be relevant on a national stage it's all they can see.
I think Bama is a strong #1 and behind them there are about 5-6 teams (our dawgs included) that are competing for the other 3 playoff spots.

By beating Alabama, which is not at all out of the question.

Bama has played only one team with a pulse-A&M. Their schedule so far this year is garbage. UGA only had one 300 yard game last year -MO. We are not and will not be a pass first team under Kirby- which is fine with me..
Haney

We didn't pass that much last year with a TRUE FR QB, and basically two NFL 1st round draft pick RB's. I bet if you looked back at Bama last year, they didn't throw nearly as much as they are this year. We have some high caliber WR's and we need to use them, it will help open up the run game. Bama's schedule is about similar to ours, they played Ole Miss, Louisville and A&M, we have played SCarolina, Mizzou and UT, how many in that group of 6 have a winning record.

We haven't seen it yet, but sometime this season, we'll have another Rose Bowl where we're gonna have to play catch up, or we'll have a situation where the opposing D just brings everybody and the waterboy up into the box and tries to stop us from running....then Fromm is gonna have to air it out.

But I'm with Haney on this one.....what good is having half a dozen 4 and 5 star weapons at WR and not use them?
Haney
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A big reason why the stud WR just decommitted (and I still think he ends up at UGA when all is said and done), is because we have two QB's that can throw but are not allowed, we have WR's and TE's that are flat out pro material but not getting a lot of chances to make plays. I get what Kirby is doing, and to some degree it makes sense but I also think you have to practice throwing/catching in game situations to be ready for the day you need to do it. At some point, we WILL need to throw it, and throw it a good bit to win a game. Why not give our QB's and WR's a chance?? But I am not the coach and it is hard to argue with 5-0 and 3-0 in conference to this point.

Great post Classic. I would suggest you call 706-542-9036 and set up an appointment with Kirby. You could explain to him how his system isn't working and what you would do to improve it. I'm sure he would be pleased with all of your football knowledge and acumen. Heck, he may even offer you a job on the staff. Hopefully you can get in soon so we won't lose the rest of our games this year. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

P.S. Please give him a few tips on how to recruit a little better, this is embarrassing.
