I usually don't get too riled up about stuff like that, but they were just so blatantly obvious. My wife called that face-mask penalty and she didn't even know it WAS a penalty!
Honestly, you consider that we were beat by one blown coverage in OT, so add all of those penalties and missed calls back in.....we won that game in my opinion. I don't even count that game as valid. It will forever just have an asterick by it for me. Me and my crowd consider the Rose bowl, arguably one of the greatest games in UGA history, as the REAL national championship game last season. As for the ring and what the record books say?...we'll maybe we can rectify that this season if we can get back there, just make sure Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles and Helen Keller aren't officiating this time.

Count me as one that is still bothered by it, not sure pissed but bothered by it because the calls were so badly missed and when they happened were huge plays. We are up 13-0 when the block punt happens, and have the ball on inside the Bama 20, even if no yardage is gained, we are in FG range easily. The TD that happened for Bama in the 4th, where the outside WR WAS moving at the snap-offsides, and not called. The blatant facemask on Swift that would have led to a first down and kept a driving going-and kept the clock moving.

It takes luck to win games and sometimes that includes some questionable calls. BUT, to have so many go against us in the second half, it is very frustrating. That being said, I truly believe a true turning point that didn't have to do with the refs was the Fromm INT on first down, after DBaker had just made a nice INT himself. Our center got blown up on the play and Fromm made one of the few really bad decisions made all season. The ball hit off a helmet and the Bama DL made the pick. If we get points there, we are in business, but even if not, just running more clock at that point was just as beneficial.

I am of the belief that sooner or later the breaks will go the way of my teams. Between the Falcons in the Super Bowl, and then UGA last year, it really does test your fandom to some degree. You see just how close and yet you don't get the final win. The Braves did win one title for the city, and that seems ages ago now-but they also had so many tough and close calls. It is going to happen at some point, but as I get older and older, I just hope I am around to see it.

I agree with you and am likewise still bothered, but not pissed, by it. In addition to the calls you mentioned, there were several others.

Probably the most blatant - even more blatantly wrong than the offsides on the blocked punt - was the kickoff where the Bama player threw a punch but was not ejected. They flagged him for unsportsmanlike conduct. Are you kidding me? He clearly and unquestioningly threw a fist. Fighting IS a reviewable penalty, and the video was undeniable. There is no penalty for fighting that does not include an automatic ejection. He should have been disqualified, but he stayed in the game and made a bush-league clothesline tackle on the next kickoff.

Another was the rabbit punch after the whistle following a Fromm scramble. Should have been 15 yards and a 1st down, which would have put us in FG range. But instead we punted a play later from Bama's 39.

Then there was the OL who tackled Roquan from behind just as he was about to tackle Tua on that 3rd down scramble. It was as blatant of a hold as you will ever see. Call the penalty there, and it's 3rd & 20+, and they likely punt. They went on to score a TD on the drive which pulled them within 13-7. If they punt there, it's possible Saban puts Hurts back in (it was the possession immediately after the blocked punt/offsides bad call.

Unlike you, I do not believe that any breaks will go your way just because they've gone against you in the past. I think that any breaks or any calls the refs make, good or bad, are completely independent of whatever has happened before. I think it will happen for us at some point, but I think we'll have to overcome some bad breaks to do so.
