ATHENS, Ga. With a 9-7 win over Northwestern (38-19) on Sunday, the seventh-ranked Georgia softball team (46-11) punched its ticket to the program's 10th Super Regional appearance.
Georgia will host Tennessee next weekend in the round of 16. Dates and times will be announced later.
The Georgia offense outhit the Wildcats 10-7 on Sunday, recording four extra-base hits. Alysen Febrey powered the offense, finishing the day with a triple and a home run, driving in four runs. Jordan Doggett set a new career high with three hits in the contest. Justice Milz scattered two hits with two RBI. Alyssa DiCarlo drew three walks, two intentional, and picked up a hit with three runs scored on Sunday.
In her third start of the weekend, Mary Wilson Avant (11-3) pitched four innings en route to the victory in the circle. She was relieved by Kylie Bass in the top of fifth who pitched the final three innings, picking up her second save of the season.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the second, Kendall Burton lined a base hit into center to plate the first run of the day. Cortni Emanuel hit a sacrifice fly to center, allowing Kaylie Harding to tag and score, putting Georgia in front by a couple, 2-0.
Northwestern erased the newfound Georgia lead in the top of the third. With bases loaded, Sabrina Rabin singled to plate the first Wildcat run. A wild pitch immediately following tied the game at 2-2. Morgan Nelson delivered a two-RBI base hit to put Northwestern ahead 4-2 in the frame.
A wild throw by the shortstop allowed DiCarloto score and cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning, 4-3.
Two, two-run home runs by Milzand Febreyput the Bulldogs back in front in the bottom of the fourth, 7-3.
A two-out throwing error by Doggettallowed two Northwestern runs to score in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to one, 7-6.
Febrey knocked a two-run triple to plate key insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to bolster the lead, 9-6.
Northwestern's Marissa Panko hit a two-out solo home run in the top of the seventh to bring the final tally to 9-7.
Bass recorded the final out via strikeout to send the Bulldogs to the Super Regional for the first time since 2016.
