ATHENS - Expectations are sky-high for Georgia’s secondary in 2026.
Kirby Smart and his Bulldog staff have two experienced cornerbacks returning along with junior safety KJ Bolden, one of the top over players on the roster.
Two years ago Bolden was a talented young pup from Buford who came to Athens with five-star expectations. Now he’s a veteran with All-American potential.
With spring practice underway, Bolden has become one of the leaders of a safety group with lots of new faces. However, Bolden was positive when asked about the growth of some of the newer players.
“We do have a lot of young guys, but I feel like the energy is great”, Bolden told reporters this week. “You know, we know what we’ve got to do. We're just trying to get better. We trying to get everybody better. I feel like spring is great for getting everybody a lot of reps. We tell everyone when you come here, you're going to get developed. So, just getting all the young guys developed, get a lot of reps, and getting to know how we do things around here. We had our first padded practice Saturday and I feel like everybody was running their flying around. We just have to keep the energy high and just keep the main goal the main goal.”
Another new player hoping to see the field this fall is incoming freshman, Tyriq Green. Like Bolden, Green player for the powerhouse Buford Wolves and did a little bit of everything for the top programs in the country.
When Bolden was at Buford, his speed, ball skills, and natural feel for the game allowed him to make an impact in all three phases of the game. That’s exactly what Green did for the Wolves, making play after play anytime he stepped on the field. He’s a natural playmaker, but sources say it was his toughness and competitive drive that won the Georgia staff over.
“That my guy, man. He reminds me of myself. He’s got great ball skills. He willing to work. He doesn’t complain at all. He’s just willing to work, man. He's doing whatever the coaches asked of him. He's doing a great job. You Buford’s a great program over there. Coach Appling did a great job getting him ready to play.”
