ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are swinging for the fences for one of the nation’s top defensive line prospects.

Back in January Georgia defensive line coach Tray Scott flew out to California to visit with elite defensive tackle, Marcus Fakatou. Then over the weekend the giant 6-foot-7 295-pounder out of Sierra Canyon (CA) returned the favor with a big unofficial visit to Athens this past weekend.

Ranked as the No. 2 DL prospect in the country and No. 28 overall, Fakatou has told Dawg Post in the past that he looks at the Georgia program as a “powerhouse”.

“I know they are a powerhouse in college football and they develop good players who carry on to the NFL. I’m all about development and looking for a college that can do just that.”

Now that he’s taken that big visit to Georgia, the elite defensive tackle explained to Dawg Post what makes coach Scott one of the best defensive line coaches in college football.

“My biggest takeaway from the visit is when Georgia says they are physical, you better believe it. They are Dawgs for a reason! Coach Scott keeps it real and he is really passionate about what is doing at Georgia. To me that means a lot because that shows he cares and wants to be around to help us younger guys make it to the next level. He’s 1 of 1, love this energy!”

At Orange Lutheran last season, he made 69 tackles, 17 TFLs and seven sacks and two forced fumbles. Now he’ll look to so the same at Sierra Canyon later this fall as a senior.

On tape it’s easy to see why Fakatou is a major Bulldog target. Not only does he overpower opposing linemen with his natural size and strength, but he fires off the ball, plays with great effort, and knows how to pressure the quarterback from the middle of the trenches while constantly making plays in the backfield.
