ATHENS - Things are heating for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs right now.
Not only on the practice field, but on the recruiting trail. As the Bulldogs continue spring practice, major prospects across multiple classifications made their way to Athens on Saturday.
Some of Georgia’s top defensive line targets made their way to the Classic City this weekend and got a chance to improve their relationship with long-time Bulldog assistant Tray Scott.
One of those targets was four-star Seth Tillman. The 6-foot-3 260-pounder out of South Pointe (SC) made 61 tackles, 27 TFLs and nine sacks last season as a junior. Tillman got an in-school visit from Kirby Smart in late January and was in town for a big Jr. Day visit a few days later. Now, Tillman got his first look at a spring practice in Athens.
“My biggest takeaway was the toughness of the players, how detailed the coaches are regarding player development, and how intentional Coach Scott is about taking care of student-athletes. The staff was a direct representation of Coach Scott, they were very accommodating and detailed.”
Tillman is ranked as the No. 14 DL and the No. 136 overall prospect in the country for the 2027 class.
Of course, Tillman wasn’t Scott’s only big target in town.
Back in January Georgia’s defensive line coach flew out to California to visit with elite defensive tackle, Marcus Fakatou. The giant 6-foot-7 295-pounder out of Sierra Canyon (CA) returned the favor with a big unofficial visit this weekend. Ranked as the No. 2 DL prospect in the country, Fakatou has told Dawg Post in the past that he looks at the Georgia program as a “powerhouse”.
“I know they are a powerhouse in college football and they develop good players who carry on to the NFL. I’m all about development and looking for a college that can do just that.”
Another out-of-state DL target to keep an eye on is Palm Beach Central (FL) standout, Tyler Alexander. One of the top interior defensive line prospects in Florida, Alexander lived in the backfield last season as a junior, making 46 tackles and 20 TFLs. The 6-foot-4 310-pounder is a major Florida target and sources tell Dawg Post the Gators could be the leader behind the scenes.
An in-state defensive tackle to know moving forward is Rabun-Gap (GA) star, Isaac Kalubi Lukuni. The 6-foot-3 280-pounder from North Georgia is fresh off a dominant sophomore season where he made 73 tackles, 24 TFLs and 15 sacks. He’s one of the top 2028 defensive line prospects in Georgia and raved about his latest visit to Athens over the weekend.
“My biggest takeaway from my visit at the university of Georgia is that the intensity and the standard they hold themselves to everyday is different. It means a lot to be Dawg and living up to it. What stands out the most about coach Scott is his relationship with the players. You can tell him and all his players get along on and off the field, like the film room. Being in a Georgia meeting was a great experience and I hope to be back soon.”
