ATHENS - Flowery Branch WR Tre Shields signed with Kirby Smart's UGA Football program over the weekend according to his coach.
Michael Perry, coach at Flowery Branch, told AccessNorthGa.com that Shields picked the Bulldogs after UGA offered him late in the process.
"Basically every college that came to visit us loved him," Perry told the outlet. "But he wasn't a qualifier at the time."
Shields was headed to junior college in Kansas, but worked to earn qualification at the NCAA Division I level, and after South Florida offered him, the Bulldogs jumped in to snag him - signing him over the weekend.
Perry told AccessNorthGa.com that Shields is "the second-best player I have ever coached." - noting that he was a coach for future NFL players A.J. Johnson and Deshaun Watson at Gainesville.
Shields ended 2025 with 54 catches and over 1,000 yards receiving as well as nine touchdowns in his only year of high school football.
