ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs picked up some big news on the recruiting trail this morning as they landed a commitment from offensive tackle target, Ty Johnson.
One of the top OL prospects in South Carolina, Johnson is a three-star tackle from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina who committed to the Bulldogs today over several other D1 programs including South Carolina and N.C State.
Johnson has been trending Georgia’s way ever since earning his Bulldog offer back on January 17th. A little over two months later, Johnson is on the commit list.
As a prospect, Johnson brings a lean 6-foot-5 300-pound frame and was an absolute mauler in the run game at right tackle last season. The small-town lineman is a mobile, athletic tackle on the rise who will be in Athens for his big official visit the weekend of June 12th.
Ranked as a three-star prospect, Johnson showed on tape that he has a very promising future. He’s got sizes physical, moves well in space, and consistently puts defenders on the ground. He does his job over and over again, showing he’s one of the more consistent tackle prospects in the Carolinas.
The Lucy Garrett Beckham (SC) standout was a pancake machine last year as a junior who won’t be asked to play early in Athens. He may have to be patient before seeing the field in Athens, but if he continues to work hard and perfect his technique, Johnson could be one of the top sleeper prospects in Georgia’s 2027 class down the road.
He’s currently ranked as the No. 40 OL prospect and the No. 487 overall prospect in the country.
