ATHENS - The 2025 football season has come to an end.
There were lots of high for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs last year, winning their third SEC Championship in four years. They also beat Tennessee for the ninth consecutive season, beat the Gators (again), broke Auburn’s heart, and shut down the Jackets in Atlanta.
They also blew out Texas in Athens and finally beat Alabama in Atlanta.
It was a memorable season, but in the end, they came up short. However, the Dawgs are expected to contend for another national championship next season.
Expectations are high, and ESPN’s Mark Schlabach has Georgia ranked No. 4 in his Way-Too-Early Top 25 for the 2026 season. The long-time college football reporter has Indiana, Texas and Notre Dame ranked ahead of the Bulldogs.
DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!
According to FanDuel, the Seattle Seahawks are 2.5-point favorites over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship.
On offense, the Dawgs are returning starting quarterback Gunner Stockton and should have one of the best running back rooms in the league next year with starter Nate Frazier returning for a third season. They’re loaded again at tight end and should have a strong offensive line, too. They’ll need some young receivers to step up in a big way, but the talent is there to make it happen.
Defensively, Georgia should have one of the best units in college football. They’re returning several starters in the secondary and still managed to sign several more impactful defensive backs in the portal. Expectations are sky-high for Georgia’s secondary next season.
Glenn Schumann has another elite linebacker room on his hands and the pass-rush should see a big boost with the addition of Auburn transfer Amaris Williams. The Dawgs also return starters Gabe Harris and Quintavius Johnson along with several young, hungry sophomores looking to make an impact in their second season. Georgia’s defensive line, a group that played well in 2025, will be deeper and more experienced next season.
Overall, it’s easy to see why Georgia fans should be very excited about the 2026 season. They’re older, more experienced, and have a chance to take a step forward on both sides of the ball.
They came up short in 2025, but it’s clear the Dawgs will be hunting for another title in 2026.
