UGA Football Coach Visits Top-Ranked 5-star Linebacker Prospect

ATHENS - It’s been a busy week for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Dawgs are hosting some top prospects on campus this weekend after hitting the recruiting trail hard on Thursday and Friday.

Here are some notes on where the Georgia staff has been over the last few days...

Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann saw at least three top targets in the 2027 class. He stopped by South Paulding (GA) to see new 2027 linebacker commit Joakim Gouda while also checking on four-star Noah Glover‍ up in Virginia. Of course Schumann couldn’t come back to Athens without heading to Texas to check on five-star linebacker target Cooper Witten‍. The son of former NFL Hall-of-Famer Jason Witten, Cooper is a do-it-all athlete who caught 12 touchdown passes on offense last season while making 87 tackles and forcing seven fumbles on defense. He’s ranked as the No. 1 LB prospect in the country for the 2027 class.

As for Kirby Smart, in addition to the trips he made on Thursday, Dawg Post can confirm that he stopped by Macon County to check on three-star running back Jakeyveon Parker‍ this week‍. Georgia’s lone running back commitment will be back in Athens this weekend. Smart also stopped by Hampton (GA) to check on elite 2027 safety Kamarui Dorsey‍ on Thursday‍. One of the state’s top overall prospects, Dorsey is currently committed to Texas A&M.

On Friday Smart made stops at Buford, Cherokee Bluff, Lanier, Hebron Christian, Collins Hill and Mountain View.

 

We can confirm that Mike Bobo was in North Georgia this week to check on some young quarterbacks. He stopped by Dalton to check on 2028 quarterback Caine Woods and stopped by Christian Heritage to check on 2029 quarterback Charlie Baxter, one of the top young passers across the state. Bobo and offensive line coach Stacy Searels also stopped by Gainesville towards the end of the week.

 

On Thursday Todd Hartley made a trip to Illinois to see his top 2027 tight end target in four-star Brock Williams‍. Williams is the No. 2 TE prospect in the country and the No. 49 overall prospect. The big 6-foot-5 210-pounder caught 44 passes for 596 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Williams confirmed with Dawg Post that he’ll be in Athens for another visit the weekend of January 30th.
