ATHENS - When Sprayberry (GA) defensive back commit Kealan Jones committed to Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs back on April 12th, it was news that flew under the radar.

Not only is Jones” just” a three-star prospect, but he also committed on G-Day. So his pledge to Georgia didn’t make the waves that most commitments do.

Jones saw his recruitment take off this winter after a strong junior season, and after a spring visit to Georgia in March, Jones knew soon after that he wanted to play his college ball in Athens.

At 6-foot-1 195-pounds, Jones brings good size, length, instincts, and natural athleticism as a multi-sport standout. He’s quiet off the field but lets his game do the talking for him on the gridiron. He’s a smart, high IQ player with a good head on his shoulders. He comes from an athletic family and understands the future he has in front of him.

This isn’t a “look at me” type of player. Jones is all business who should only get better and better this upcoming fall and into his college career at Georgia.

As a junior last season, Jones made 42 tackles in nine games with four INTs in coverage. He’s ranked as the No. 40 safety prospect and the No. 53 overall prospect in Georgia for the 2026 class.

When and how he got his Georgia offer?

“Coach T-Rob came by my school during the evaluation period when my recruitment was taking off. He watched some of my film and offered me on the spot. I was blessed. They checked all the boxes that I looked for in a school.”

Why did Jones ultimately choose Georgia?

“Georgia gave me a home feel that I couldn’t get anywhere else when it came to the players and everyone on the coaching staff. They’re a winning program that believes in bringing me in to compete for my time on the field. The overall connection I have with Coach T-Rob and Coach Smart is definitely a big reason for my commitment as well. The amount of experience Coach Smart has is almost second to none. He has built and maintained a winning program for years. I also like having a defensive-minded head coach that played my position as well.”

When did Jones know he wanted to be a Bulldog?

“I knew I wanted to be a Bulldog after one of the first spring practices that I saw. I really liked it. I wasn’t saying much but in my mind I knew Georgia would be tough to beat. After I took all my visits I thought things over and decided to call coach Robinson to tell him I wanted to jump on board. I feel like he expected it and he was pretty happy and ready to get to work.”

On Georgia’s practice style...

“I liked how coach Smart was on the mic and getting after everyone. I liked that aggressive coaching style. Someone who will tell you the truth and won’t take it easy on you. That’s how coach Smart and coach T-Rob approach things. They’ll give you that hard coaching.”

On Georgia’s plan for him...

“It all depends on how much I weight when I get there but they want me to play both safety and nickel.”

On coach Smart...

“The first time I met him was at one of my basketball games. Then I spoke with him for a couple of spring practices and then back at G-Day. We have a pretty good relationship.”

On Georgia’s pitch...

“They had a plan and I liked how they recruited a lot of in-state guys. I like what they have going on.  They liked my versatility and how I can put my nose on the ball and come down-hill. They know I can play multiple positions in the secondary as well.”

On what he does best on the field

“Just make plays. Whether it’s forcing a fumble or making a sack or another big play down the field. Just making plays.”
