ATHENS - UGA Football coach Kirby Smart update reporters on Carson Beck’s injury heading into the College Football Playoff and the Sugar Bowl.
“We are just waiting to find out more information,” Kirby said of Beck’s status. “"I think there is no good script for losing your quarterback or having to go to your backup," Kirby said. "This situation does give you time if that has to happen. There is time there. Experience is so valuable."
Kirby said that Beck and punter Brett Thorson had MRIs completed this morning.
“The MRI was done this morning, and we are waiting on result on those,” Kirby said - adding that Beck was at the Dawgs’ team meeting on Sunday.
“He was pretty somber,” Kirbt said of Beck during the Bulldogs’ team meeting Sunday.
Beck was hurt at the end of the first half during Georgia’s big 22-19 SEC Championship win over Texas. Down 6-3, Beck attempted to launch a final hail-mary on the final play before the half. He got hit hard by a Texas defender, fumbling and falling awkwardly to the ground.
Beck ended the game 7/13 with 56 yards and zero touchdowns. He also had several passes dropped in the first half. However, with just one arm, Beck was able to come in on the final play and hand the ball off to Etienne who scampered his way into the endzone for the game-winning score.
