Fast-Rising UGA Football Star Breaks Down Spring Practice
ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia Bulldog sophomore defensive lineman Elijah Griffin spoke with the media on Tuesday afternoon and offered the following comments...
On getting advice from Warren Brinson...
I lean on Warren a lot. Obviously Warren's older than me and has been through the whole process of being a Georgia athlete. Our relationship started in seventh grade. He was just on me to just to work hard and do the best that I can.
On playing against Bo Walker in high school...
“Bo and I are very close. During that state championship game he was just a freight train. We couldn't stop him. They had a lot of speed. What I remember from the from the game was on one play they trapped me and then Bo just ran through for 100 yards. He's a beast.
On the best advice he’s been given about dealing with expectations?
“To just take things day by day and focus on the moment. If I focus too much on the future, I won't be able to you know, get there.
DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!
According to FanDuel, the UCONN Huskies have +650 odds of winning the national championship.
On being “disruptive” in practice...
“After every practice, coach Schumann talks about a havoc goal, a run goal, and stuff like that. How well we start to run and practice that day, how much havoc we’re causing with pressure, and the run game that day. In order to do those things, we just have to attack and practice hard very day.
On freshman DL Valdin Sone...
“He's twitchy. He kind of remind me of me first coming in. He's probably faster than me too, not going to lie. He's very fast and a really big guy too. He's just going through the process as well. I just tell them all the time, just keep stacking days, man. You're going to be okay.
On practice habits to create more sacks...
“Honestly, just as a defense, we take pride in that, because, obviously, looking at that last year, we didn't really have a lot of production sack wise. So we need to just keep attacking during spring ball, and obviously following the fall camp. We just want to do that collectively as a group because we want to be the best SEC team in the league.”
On Elyiss Williams...
“He brings a lot, man. He's 6 foot 7. Like, he's a tall guy. He's going through the process as well. We're in the same class obviously, and he attacks everything the right way. And if he continues to do that he's going to be very successful.”
On the offensive line...
“They’re looking good this year, for sure. One freshman standing out is Zykie Helton. He reminds me of Micah (Morris) a little bit, but just a little bit quicker. He's a brute in a run game. Same thing with Jah (Jackson), he’s a brute in the run game. Overall the offensive line's looking real good.”
