ATHENS - As Dawg Post mentioned last month, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have been pushing hard to flip four-star cornerback Shamari Earls‍ from South Carolina. Well, today they made the flip official.

Earls, a 6-foot-2 205-pound defensive back from Thomas Dale High School in Virginia, originally committed to Shane Beamer and the Gamecocks back on April 20th, but schools like Georgia and Michigan were able to get the big, speedy defensive back on campus in June for an official visit.

Earls was in Athens the weekend of June 21st, and things started to trend Georgia’s way ever since. Now, Earls gives Georgia their first true cornerback commitment who could see his ranking rise more and more this fall.

According to FanDuel, the Atlanta Braves have +850 odds to win the World Series next season.

What will Earls bring to Athens?

Size and speed.

His 6-foot-2 205-pound frame will make him one of the bigger cornerbacks on Georgia’s roster the second he gets on campus. Even though he might be on the heavier side compared to other cornerbacks Georgia already has, Earls does bring plenty of speed as well.

A track star who was a Virginia Class 6 indoor state champion in the long jump as a junior, Earls also brings outstanding straight-line speed in addition to his explosiveness. The Virginia native runs an extremely impressive 10.80 in the 100-meter, a tremendous time for someone his size.

A weight-room warrior, Earls brings a muscular frame and knows how to tackle. He made 25 tackles, but it was his ability to cover and make a play on the ball that the Georgia staff covets. Earls showed he can play on the outside and handle bigger, physical receivers. He can jam them at the line of scrimmage, knocking them off their route when given an opportunity to do so. He can also turn and run with some of the faster receivers in the area down the field. As a junior last fall, Earls picked off three passes and knocked four more away from the receiver.

A two-way standout. Earls also showed big-play ability on offense as a receiver, hauling in 29 passes for an impressive 715 yards (24.6 yards per catch) and 8 touchdowns while making an impact as a returner on special teams.

Between his size, speed, ball skills, and natural athleticism, it’s easy to see why Georgia fans should be excited about this future Bulldogs. He’s a hard-working, competitive young man who has his best football years ahead of him.

Earles is ranked as the No. 12 CB prospect, the No. 4 prospect in Virginia, and the No. 105 overall prospect in the country for the 2025 class.
