ATHENS - After singing an elite defensive back class that included multiple 5-stars in last year’s 2024 recruiting cycle, Kirby Smart, Travaris Robinson, and the rest of the UGA football defensive staff are looking to do the same in this current 2025 class.

The Dawgs have one current defensive back committed in Valdosta (GA) four-star Todd Robinson‍, and sources say they’ve gained some momentum with multiple defensive back targets who were in Athens late last month for an official visit.

As we reported last week, multiple sources say Georgia has made a big move with South Carolina commitment, Shamari Earls‍. In fact, some trusted sources believe that while he’s still currently committed to the Gamecocks, Earls will likely end up at either Georgia or Michigan. Both programs are pushing hard for a flip, but with a recent visit to Athens fresh on his mind, many feel Georgia could be the team that flips Earls sooner than later.

The four-star from Thomas Dale High School in Virginia brings plenty of length and physical 6-foot-2 205-pounds. The lock-down cornerback is tough, technically sound, and brings plenty of speed to go along with his SEC-level size. A two-way standout, Earls caught 30 passes on offense for an outstanding 720 yards and 8 touchdowns. Defensively, the fast-rising Bulldog target made 25 tackles and two INTs. He’s ranked as the No. 12 CB prospect and the No. 105 prospect in the country.

Another four-star defensive back to keep an eye on is South Sumter (FL) standout, Rashad Johnson‍. The 6-foot-2 185-pound safety was in Athens for a big official visit the weekend of June 14 and sources told Dawg Post over the weekend that Georgia has quietly been a team towards the top for Johnson ever since. He took an official visit to Texas A&M the weekend of June 21st, but sources close to Johnson say the Dawgs still remain in a good position. Johnson originally had plans to make a commitment on July 1st, but has now moved his commitment to July 14th. Johnson is ranked as the No. 33 safety prospect and the No. 360 overall prospect in the 2025 class.

Four-star safety Jaylan Morgan is another name Georgia fans should know about. Sources have always told Dawg Post that the in-state Tennessee Volunteers were the team to beat for the Mufreesboro, Tennessee native, but sources tell Dawg Post that the Dawgs have made a move with Morgan after a successful official visit to Athens the weekend of June 21st.

It appears the Georgia staff has started to push a little more for the Rockvale High defender, but Tennessee and Florida remain in the mix as well. Some feel Georgia has the momentum, and if Morgan decides to make a possible commitment soon, Georgia might have the advantage. Morgan is ranked as the No.24 safety prospect and the No. 252 overall prospect in the country.
