Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart to ESPN: "Blown Away" With Calls About Stetson Bennett

ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said he’s eager to see what happens with two-time national champion QB Stetson Bennett this weekend at the NFL Draft.

“I am excited to see where he goes,” Kirby said. “I have been blown away with the number of teams that have called about Stetson.”

Kirby made his comments on ESPN’s First Take.

“He anticipates throws. In today’s NFL you had better have an athletic guy who can move around, and Stetson has proven he can do that at the highest level of college football,” Kirby added.

The UGA head coach told ESPN on Thursday that Bennett had already accomplished a ton during his improbable career at Georgia. 

“I think Stetson has proved a lot of people wrong already,” he said. “So no matter when he goes, or where he goes he's going to continue to prove people wrong. He's uber talented. He's got great athleticism. The part that people don't give him credit for - he's already played in the system. Todd Monken's system has been all over the NFL. So he can walk into a huddle; he can anticipate throws; he's seen all the defenses. He's played in the right type of system.”

Thursday night three Bulldogs, Jalen Carter, Broderick Jones and Nolan Smith, were taken in the first round. The Bulldogs’ three first rounders tied the second-most players selected in the first round in school history (2018).  Following a record-breaking five in 2022, Georgia has now had eight players selected in the opening round over the last two years.

The NFL Draft continues Friday with the second and third rounds starting at 7 p.m. ET.  On Saturday, rounds 4-7 are slated to begin at 12 p.m..
