ATHENS - Kirby Smart said Tuesday that Georgia Bulldogs transfer WR RaRa Thomas will practice with the program this spring.

Thomas was arrested in late January on two charges of battery and false imprisonment charges. Those charges have since been dropped, and Smart told reporters on Tuesday that the Mississippi State transfer will be a full participant in their first spring practice later today.

“RaRa has been cleared to participate with the team. He still has some ongoing things with campus that has to be cleared. But he's going to be able to practice with us right now,” Kirby said

The Bulldogs are set to start spring football Tuesday.

“(Dominic Lovett) and RaRa have competed in our league. They have caught a lot of passes in our league. They've been very productive in our league. It was a position we were losing several players at. We needed to be able to help our quarterbacks. The quarterbacks need some weapons to throw to,” Kirby said.

Thomas led State in receptions in 2022 with 44 catches for 626 yards with seven touchdowns. In his two-year career at State, Thomas has 62 catches for 878 yards with 12 touchdowns. He is one of three transfers into UGA in 2023. Thomas picked Kirby Smart's program over Tennessee, Ole Miss and Auburn among others.

With Thomas on board and cleared to practice, look for him to quickly rise on Bryan McClendon’s depth chart this spring. Even in a crowded receiver room, Thomas’ size, experience, and big play potential is needed for Georgia next season. He has reliable, strong hands and is excellent down the field and after the catch. He was Mississippi State’s leading receiver from last year and will likely find his way on the field very early in his first season in Athens.

The Bulldogs also have former Missouri Tiger standout Dominic Lovett on the roster this year, who also brings more SEC experience, reliable hands, above-average speed, and big-play ability.

Combine Thomas and Lovett with guys like Ladd McConkey, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Arian Smith, Dillon Bell, among others, and it’s clear the Bulldogs will bring a stacked wide receiving core into the 2023 season next fall.
