For those who followed GA State this year, how would you evaluate Jonas Hayes' first year?

I watched a bunch of GSU games this year. I though Jonas and his staff coached their asses off. They had tons of injuries and players missing games from a roster that was just not that talented to begin with. I believe their top 6 players graduated or left after last season, so he was left with just a bunch of back up role players. He brought in a few decent players, but his team had no size and very little shooting. It is a complete rebuild. There are a number of guys on that team who simply weren't good enough to play for him or at that level. They played Tech down to a last second shot and were up on Auburn at the half. They struggled tremendously in conference. He's gotta get players. It's just gonna take time.

I watched them play at least four times in person. Everything you said is correct. Jonas needs to get some real talent. He did a great job with what he had to work with.

Jonas has problems not unlike Mike White. Neither has enough guys who can make shots (which led to long scoring droughts in a number of games for each team this year), and neither has any real inside presence (which is a problem offensively, defensively and on the boards). Neither have a consistent way to get easy points. Both guys are good coaches, and both are gonna need to time to bring in players who can play the way they want. For example, Abdur-Rahim is winning now at KSU, but, when he got there, the program and roster were a disaster. It's taken him 4 years to begin to play at a high level (for KSU). I would say that Jonas and White were left with similar roster issues.
