How long do you want to ignore this user?
Was eating dinner Saturday night at the bar at a local restaurant. I hear this familiar voice next to me and look over to see radio guy Steak Shapiro ordering a beer. I made a joke about hearing a familiar voice, and he made a joke about me eating healthy. (I'm trying to lose weight, and I was eating salmon.) We talked about a number of sports things, and finally, I said that my buddy had gotten the GSU basketball job. He asked who it was, and I told him Jonas Hayes - played at UGA, assistant at UGA and Xavier, etc. (I was stunned he didn't know that for a sports radio guy in Atlanta.) He mentioned he had been friends with former GSU coach Ron Hunter - now at Tulane, which is Shapiro's alma mater. Then he says, you know Jonas started on Jim Harrick's last team at UGA - that great team that got screwed out of the NCAA tournament. I said that I have UGA season tickets and have followed UGA basketball for decades. I sit on the 4th row behind the bench. Jonas did not start in '02-'03 - the front court was Steve Thomas, Chris Daniels and Jarvis Hayes - with Rashard Wright and Ezra Williams. Damien Wilkins and Jonas came off the bench. The goofball bet me $5. LOL Easy bet to win, but hard to collect....

An "expert" that didn't know Jonas Hayes was the new head coach at GA State? :-)

He is a glorified - no wait, won't even give him that. He's just a carnival barker.

I remember harricks talented last team from 2003.
You are correct Jonas didn't start.
It was a shame they got screwed out of the tournament.
In many ways I think it was our best team ever.
What do you think was our best team?
Even better than our final four team.
( they got very hot at the right time)

Oh yeah, I remember Harrick's last team very well. I knew I was right. I don't bet unless I'm sure. I'm still so pissed at Adams I can't see straight. Every time I see that ass I want to scream. He completely wrecked our basketball program over a stupid PE class test and one cancerous kid. There were a lot of great guys on that team who were punished for nothing that was their fault. That '02-'03 team was great and had Final Four potential. I can't say they were better than our 1982-83 team though. That was my first year at UGA; I didn't miss a game. I remember all season thinking that they were better than they were playing. Yes, they got hot at the right time, but, remember, that team was learning to play without Dominique. He had turned pro the year before. That team was trying to figure out where the points were going to come from and how to win, and they did - just in time. It took them a while to adjust. They were tremendous defensively and on the boards, and they finally "got it". Harrick's team didn't get a chance to show their full potential, which I would argue can only really be seen in the tournament. The Tony Cole drama during the season had to be a distraction. I love both teams!!

great points about both teams.
too bad we will never know how good the 2003 team was.
i think they were more talented player for player.
they were 7 deep of legit sec starters.
ladamian wilkins played in nba for a long time and he was on the bench for this team.

many years we only have a couple legit sec starters on the roster.
did we have any last year?
