at Xavier as associate head coach, if he doesn't get a HC. Somebody would be making a big, big mistake not to hire him as HC.

And wow, what a win! Xavier by a point, hitting a shot with 3 seconds left. A&M's last second shot went in and out at the buzzer. Great, great game....

I'm pretty sure they said he is between associate at Xavier, assistant at Georgia and head coach somewhere(maybe Georgia st) .
I hope we didn't miss our chance

Look we won't lose him over money. I hope he gets Georgia State.

If it's down to where to be an assistant and he wants to work for a crook like Miller then it is what it is.

He deserves to get the Georgia State job. If he wants to wait another cycle, he likely needs to stay at Xavier. Decent chance Xavier will be good next year. He can bank the NIT performance and likely snag a good job next hiring cycle. The Pre-NIT firing really gave him him his opportunity. It is a huge thing for him and family.

All things considered, I think it more likely that Jonas Hayes will be the HC at either Georgia State or Chattanooga next year, rather than an assistant at either Xavier or Georgia.

I think UTC has already filled their position. It is my understanding that Al Pinkins might be leader for the GA St job because of his relationship to the AD. We are still in it for Jonas. I would be pleasantly surprised if we can get him back, but he and White would a serious threat to the rest of the SEC.

Did you or I hear wrong? I heard Xavier's coach said he has a job if he doesn't get a job as a HC if he wants one. Not that Jonas already said yes to the assistant coach job.

I didn't mean to imply that we're not in it still. Just that Coach Hayes would be more likely to accept a head coaching offer even if it's for a lot less money, than an assistant position.
If I were an AD, no question I would offer him. But if that doesn't happen, it becomes an interesting debate as to whether to choose Xavier or UGA. For one thing, there is the distinct possibility that the NCAA will level sanctions on Sean Miller. Some think that's the reason Xavier is trying to keep Coach Hayes - in case the "interim " period becomes a pretty long time. That would allow Coach Hayes a good long time at the helm, but it would be a period of uncertainty and might seriously complicate recruiting.

I think we both heard right. I just think ESPN was a bit too vociferous in promoting Miller's offer, as if it was a done deal.

Jonas would probably accept a HC job for less money than an AHC job, but I think we are offering a multi-year deal at probably a pretty high $. I agree with you about Miller and his likely NCAA punishment, but would a young coach whose career is really trending up want to become somehow tied to Miller and his reputation? I'm not sure Hayes would want to do that.

Agree with that about Miller. If Coach Hayes talks to Coach White, I think he will be favorably impressed. They share some deeply held core values.

Oh, Jonas knows White. White tried to hire him at UF a few years ago. I think they have a good relationship.
