I was not a great student at uga.
I am not an expert in basketball.
However, these facts seem obvious and they explain why we have been a subpar team the last few years.

You have to have a point guard.
Between JJ Frazier and wheeler our point guard play was atrocious.

You have to have a couple bigger guys that can defend.
We have not had that the last few years.

It's great to have some good wings/ shooters but without the point and big guys you can't win in sec.

I know this stuff is obvious but I don't understand how we have entered seasons with such glaring holes?

I am optimistic about cook at point.
I have no idea if we have if we have any solid bigs

I honestly think Cook is going to surprise some people. We wanted him bad. His experience and ability will be key to any success we might have this season.

Cook will be serviceable at PG and should average double figures. Just to compare; The top three point guards in the 2021 Class are all coming to the SEC:

#1) Kennedy Chandler chose Tennessee over Duke and Vescovi returns. .
#2) JD Davison joins Quinerly at Alabama
#3) TyTy Washington to Kentucky along with Wheeler
That's an incredibly strong list of PG's.

Elsewhere:
Auburn has two solid GT PG's along with KD Johnson
Ole Ms' Jarkel Joiner (12pts) returns w/ #8 recruit Ruffin
MissSt has Rocket Watts (B10 All-Frosh from Michigan St)
Florida's Tyree Appleby back, averaged 11.3/3.3 last year
LSU has Pinson from Mizzou and Miller who started every
game last year at Illinois as newcomers. Strong two.
Vandy's Scottie Pippen, Jr returns for his third year
Arkansas' Notae (12.8) is back and they add 3 year starter
Chris Lykes from Miami who was injured early last season
but averaged 15.8 the previous two years in The ACC. Lykes
is damn good!!
S Carolina has Cousinard back and Chico Carter in from
Murray St
Mizzou doesn't appear to have much
UGA has Aaron Cook who had some success aI SIU between
injuries then transferred to Gonzaga where he averaged
4.2/1.7 last year. This is his sixth year of D1 basketball.
3* Christian Wright, who was the 33rd ranked PG in the
2021 Class, won't likely be ready to compete with any of
those players listed above but maybe down the road?

Point guard will likely be our strength

JJ was much better than Wheeler...much more consistent and a better 3 point shooter.

JJ didn't turn the ball over nearly as much as Wheeler either.

Yep, not even close, JJ was better in every aspect of the game including defensively. Plus he is part of the only graduating class in Georgia history to never have a losing conference record, going 42-30 over his four years. What we got out of a 2* in Frazier and 3* in Maten was pretty damn impressive.
