Crean: "There's a saying, 'It's not the players you don't get that hurt you it's the players you do get that can't help you.' The pressure of this job is not that people leave. I can deal with crisis management because I've had to do it. Nothing could top what we went through at Indiana."

Even as we stipulate that the portal and the virus have made rebuilding exponentially more difficult, we concede that Crean hasn't yet proved an upgrade. (Fox's final three seasons saw Georgia go 57-44 overall, 26-28 in SEC play.)

Last week Josh Brooks, the new AD, told the AJC's Chip Towers: "Through my meetings with coach Crean and his staff, I feel very good about our ability to adapt to the new environment."

Said Crean: "If I were a first-time coach, I'd be scared to death. But compared to what I through at Marquette and Indiana, this is nothing. I don't say that flippantly. I say that confidently."

While I don't see the upside in firing him now and incurring the higher buyout since there isn't much time for a new coach to fix next season either by way of coaching or recruiting given where we are in the recruiting calendar, I didn't care for his false sense of confidence. Frankly, his "leadership" style is what seems to have led to this "crisis" he seems so confident in being able to overcome, all facts in evidence to the contrary.

What loser quotes.

Dude you are winning 20% of your SEC games.

I don't know about the turnover at either school. Was it happening after year 3?

I get it before and after the first year, but surely it wasn't this bad this long into his tenure at either of those places.

I know the transfer portal has changed everything, but like you, I would have expected super high turnover before or immediately after Year 1, then declining thereafter as Crean got "his guys" that better fit "his system". Seeing this mass exodus after Year 3 is a huge red flag. Here is where AFD comes in, since I would expect the transfer portal to cause all teams to experience higher than historical levels of transfers, but my guess is that UGA is WAY higher than everyone else in the SEC.

This transfer thing is clearly an epidemic. That said, we lose 6 guys - only 3 of which have an impact. Fagan leaves for more PT - his would have been reduced at UGA. Very replaceable. Camara leaves - lord knows why. Athletic and capable of big plays, but inconsistent, not a good perimeter shooter and pouty, according to some who would know. He's a loss but again not irreplaceable. The transfer from FAU has similar numbers, but I think his production will be spread over several positions. Wheeler leaves - to get closer to home or whatever the reason. He is a loss, but not irreplaceable. He has many problems in his game, though he is dynamic, pushes the pace and creates easy baskets. I will miss that. I won't miss the TOs, the poor perimeter shooting and the defensive mismatches. Wright looks promising on paper, but I have to think we bring in another transfer PG with experience. The real question is can all these new players gel together.

That this article was even written signals to me that Brooks was forced to engage - "oh, ***** We have a men's basketball team?"

If we blow chunks again next season, the McGarity "Georgia Way" would trip over itself to make excuses and blame the transfer epidemic as the cause, rather than evaluating why we found ourselves in that position.

Maybe this assemblage of journeymen from the Island of Misfit Toys emerges as a basketball equivalent of the movie "Major League."

I'm currently guessing single digit wins. Total.
