#3: UGA

In Year 3, Kirby Smart has things absolutely rolling. Pencil in the Dawgs for a second straight SEC East title -- at least. The backfield shouldn't miss much after the loss of Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Jake Fromm faces a challenge from freshman Justin Fields. How many teams have enough QB depth to unseat an incumbent starter who led a team to the playoff? (Not counting Clemson and Alabama.)

CBS Sports College Football Analyst Dennis Dodd on UGA remaining at or near the top in 2018:

"Absolutely. Anyone of my first three teams can be No. 1. You have a quarterback that led them to the national title game a year ago, and you bring in one of the top QB prospects this season. They won't miss much at running back and Kirby is just getting started. I was talking to someone during the spring meetings and we both agree, Georgia's going to be in the mix for a while."

What the post-spring top 25s got right, and what they got wrong
By Connor O'Gara
3 May 2018

I was thinking about where I'd probably have Georgia if I had to make a poll today. Honestly, it'd probably somewhere in the 3-6 range. The things that I feel really, really good about are Kirby Smart, Jake Fromm in Year 2, the uberly-talented running game and the improved secondary. The things that I'm not quite as sure about are the move-the-chains receivers, the linebacker experience and the defensive line depth.

College Football News' Pete Fiutak ranks all 130 FBS for 2018 and has UGA at #3:

3. Georgia Bulldogs

Now that Georgia has had a taste of a national championship, it's time to take the full bite.

Losing Roquan Smith and all the linebackers, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel just won't be that big a deal that's where the talent level is now under Kirby Smart. The quarterback situation might be stressful, but just about everyone else would kill for either Jake Fromm or Justin Fields.

The offensive line is terrific, the defensive front will be fantastic, and the NFL players on both sides will start to shine through as the season goes on.
