Soooooooooo, what the heck happened?
After the 2016 season he underwent shoulder surgery, was hospitalized on 22 February 2017 w/ a "significant medical issue" (rumored to be mental health related), dropped from 309 to 265-270 lbs., played the 2017 season at 288 lbs. (missed two games w/ an MCL sprain), then declared his intent to forgo his remaining eligibility for the 2018 NFL Draft on 12 January.
Note that NCAA progress-toward-degree requirements may have been an issue for Trenton (and Deangelo Gibbs for 2019 as the latter wasn't enrolled for UGA's Spring 2018 semester) as he withdrew from 2017 Spring semester classes on 23 February b/c of the medical issue. Therefore, "Jolly" may not have earned the requisite # of annual credits (i.e., 18) in 2017 to play college football in 2018:
http://www.ncaa.org/about/division-i-progress-toward-degree-requirementsStandards include minimum grade-point average, term-by-term and annual credit hour requirements, and percentage-of-degree requirements. **Student-athletes who do not meet the requirements are not eligible for competition.**
