SEC Network host Paul Finebaum: "That is easily one of the dumbest decisions I have ever seen in college football history, and there's just no explaining it, and he did not explain it very well. His explanation was terribly flawed too, because instead of just owning it as any responsible head coach would have done, he threw his players under the bus."

I agree 100% with all the "experts", maybe the dumbest call I have ever seen-not so much to fake a punt, but the timing/situation in the game, it just makes ZERO sense and Kirby deserves heat for that call. You make them earn it by driving from the 20 or maybe inside the 20. Also, if you practice it all, you instruct your players to call a a timeout if they see the man intended to make the catch is covered. Poor decision and poor execution, equals a loss.

Well, at least we got Meyer stepping down to maybe get the rest of the national media off of our case about our loss. But I think this will still sting for the faithful for a while. It's like the laws of physics won't let us beat Bama. The ill-fated Conelly catch in 2012....the inept refs give it to them last year in the NC game...now we out play them and then shoot ourselves in the foot with this ridiculous fake punt. What's it going to take?

I didn't mind the play so much as who we put out there. The minute they saw JF, and we all know they did...

That said, we ran the same play on them back in '12 and it worked but our TE was whose always out there made the pass so no tip off.

Could it have mattered had we pinned them deep? For sure but had it worked he'd have been seen as a genius as its just a feast or famine call.

Bottom line, the bigger issue is that we let them score 21 straight and that is not acceptable.

Hopefully we've learned from these two L's that when you have your foot on their proverbial throat you dont left off even the tiniest of bits. Period!!!!!

Woof!!!

'Fourth-and-11' brings criticism, support for 'risky' call

CBS Sports Network's Randy Cross called the decision a "brain cramp of a coach's call."

"I was texting with a couple of NFL special teams coaches after the game," former UGA punter Drew Butler said. "I said, 'Was that a terrible call?' They said no it was worse than that. I cannot understand why Georgia and Kirby Smart decided to run the fake punt. It was desperate. It seemed like he didn't trust his defense and to me that gave the game away."
