Maryland had a $94.8M athletics budget in Fiscal Year 2017, but generated only $80M in revenue (including $37M from the Big Ten Conference). The balance was offset via $14.5M in student fees and direct institutional subsidies. Some other challenges Evans is dealing with:

- Maryland Men's Basketball program failed to make the NCAA Tournament

On 16 April 2006, UGA's Athletics Department was declared "national financial champs" after earning a $24M profit the preceding year under AD Damon Evans. Six weeks later President Adams & AD Evans convinced UGA Athletics Association Board of Directors to start transferring some of the athletics profits (i.e., $81.7M over 10 years) to the university to support academics and diversity initiatives.

Unfortunately, Damon was a rumored to have a drinking problem during his tenure as AD and it manifested itself in a DUI arrest on 30 June 2010 (two years to the day that former AD Vince Dooley was forced to retire by President Adams). Besides that, Damon was arrested along w/ an unmarried woman passenger in his vehicle named Courtney Fuhrmann. Embarrassing as that was, more so was that her red panties were unexplainably on his lap. Since Damon was married to another woman and had kids, that was tough for him to explain his and Courtney's ongoing five-weeks relationship. A few days later he was forced to resign as UGA's Athletics Director.

Have heard some pretty wild stories about Damon's years as AD. Some are rumors but I have reliable information, about what most Georgia donors would consider, inappropriate goings on in the AD's box during games.

He lost a pretty sweet gig here due to his stupid actions, but let's face it, we all do stupid things from time to time. And I am a believer in second changes. Good luck to him.
