ATHENS - Former UGA co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is on the move inside the SEC.

Muschamp was named defensive coordinator at Texas under coach Steve Sarkisian. The move comes after Muschamp took the season off from coaching.

"This is an exciting day for the Muschamp family," Muschamp said. "We loved our time in Austin and truly enjoyed everything about working with Texas Football. We're thrilled to be coming back to a program with one of the richest and proudest histories and traditions in college football. With what Coach Sark has done in rebuilding this program – knowing there are even better days ahead – I was fired up for the opportunity. I have tremendous respect and admiration for Sark, how he leads his program, develops his team and players, builds culture and goes about his business. I'm excited to be a part of it and can't wait to get started, Hook ‘em!"

Muschamp was a part of Kirby Smart’s staff at Georgia in some form from 2021 to 2024. Over his three seasons of on-field coaching at Georgia from 2021-23, the Bulldogs compiled a 42-2 record that included back-to-back National Championships in 2021 and 2022.

Muschamp has been the head coach at two SEC schools - South Carolina and Florida. He was 56-51 overall combined record in nine seasons, recording 28 wins each at Florida and South Carolina. Muschamp has also been an assistant at Auburn and LSU.
