This post is dedicated to the unsung heroes of Georgia Football. You may not get the press clippings or the public accolades, but the Dawgnation appreciates you. Thanks for all you do!
- To the Assistant Coach who watches film on Sunday night at 11 p.m., fighting off sleep, trying to devise a solid plan for the next Saturday. He'll be back in the office at 7 a.m. Monday, watching more film and working on the week's practice schedule.
- To the graduate and student assistants who spend all day Sunday breaking down game film and providing the assistant coaches with stats and tendency reports for next week's opponent. Without you, the assistant coaches couldn't concentrate on the job at hand.
- To the student managers and trainers who contribute countless hours preparing equipment, taping ankles, packing all the necessities for the road trips and handling many of the logistical problems.
- To the 4th-string QB or Safety who gives his all at practice everyday, sweating and bleeding for the Dawgs, running the scout team, only to never see the playing field. On Saturdays he stands on the sidelines and cheers his teammates with unmatched enthusiasm. He even congratulates the guy who beat him out after he makes a key touchdown or interception. YOU ARE THE DEFINITION OF "TEAM."
- To the team doctors who work around the clock to ensure that all the players receive the proper treatment and are able to recover from their injuries as soon as possible. Thanks for keeping us healthy!
- To the coaches wives, who live without their husbands for months on end, oftentimes raising the kids by themselves, but who are always there on Saturday to yell and scream for the Dawgs. You are the definition of "Loyalty."
- To the young man who drives from South Georgia to see the Dawgs play every Saturday, barely being able to afford the price of a ticket. Even though he isn't wealthy and has no tailgate crew to party with, he never misses a Dawg's home game. Many times he must sit alone, because no one else was able to make it that week. But he is always there, just like those hedges.
- To the farmer who can't leave his crops and livestock long enough to get up to Athens in the Fall, but who has Larry blasting from his combine or truck or tractor each and every Saturday. He never misses a game, even when the field has to be plowed.
- To the old man, grayed and feeble from years of work and sweat, living alone in a one-bedroom apartment, who faithfully turns on his radio every Saturday and pulls for the Dawgs. He still remembers Charlie Trippi and Frank Sinkwich. You are the definition of "Fan."
- To the UGA Alumni in New York and San Francisco and Chicago and Los Angeles, who bought a satellite just so they could watch all the Dawg games on television and a computer so they could mute out the volume and listen to Larry on the net.
- To the groundskeepers for making Sanford the most beautiful, well-kept stadium in America.
- To all the students who work on campus on gameday. They make it possible for the rest of us to have a good time.
And to all those who I forgot, thanks for making Georgia football what it is. Without you, and people like you, Georgia Football would be just another NFL game. We love you and appreciate you. It's great to be a Georgia Bulldawg!
