I think we are about to see an explosion of NFL draft picks at UGA. This coming draft, I believe that DBaker, along with DWalker, and maybe a few others have a shot to be 1st round picks. As great as our recruiting is now, you start having players on the OL, DL, DB and WR going in the high rounds, it only increases our visibility as a program. Say what you want but these elite 4-5 star kids are looking at the best places to increase their worth and value to NFL scouts, and we are going to be giving them more and more 1st round picks in a variety of positions. For years, we have had elite RB's and have had some elite defensive players here and there, but each and every year, OSU, Bama, UF, FSU, SCal, seem to dominate the 1st round, with Clemson also in the mix. We had three first round picks after 2017, and there is a legit shot I think we might have 3 more this year-Baker, Walker, Ledbetter, even a kid like Natrez at LB, also if Roberston goes pro after this year-if he has a breakout year, he will go high as well.
It seems every year Bama loses a ton of players to the NFL draft, yet they remain ranked #1 now for the third straight year. It used to amaze me how they could do that-plug and play but we are very close to that and Bama as well as the rest of the SEC is noticing this and they are scared because we have assumed our rightful place. Our state produces so much talent, we also have so many ties to Florida, also now to Tenn, we are moving to LA, Miss, Texas, SC and NC and plucking top 10 players from those states as well. As much as Bama has dominated the SEC for so many years now, I have always wondered why not UGA-to me we have more to offer than Bama. They have more national titles, they have slightly better facilities-although we are not far off, but our state offers so many more elite players, our school itself is far better academically as the 54th best college in America to Bama being 110. We have one of the best coaching staffs in college football, all we have needed to me was the right coach and the total commitment to give the best coach what he needs. I feel we are on the same page in all regards finally. This year is big to show last year was not a fluke, however I think the foundation is now built and I don't see us having a bad year for many years to come. Now the question is, what will be considered a bad year moving forward. To me, being realistic about our talent level and our conference, a bad year moving forward would be 3 losses.
