SUWANNE - After watching 5-star QB Jared Curtis have a monster week one last weekend, Dawg Post was back on the road to watch another major Georgia Bulldog commitment play on Friday night.
That would be four-star running back Jae Lamar.
After a tough week one where he got dinged up and left the game in the first half, the Colquitt County (GA) star was back in action on Friday night against a tough North Gwinnett Bulldog team.
The Packers fell to North Gwinnett 21-7 but Lamar still showed why he is one of the top running back prospects across the country. The powerful 5-foot-11 205-pounder was far from 100% but still made a giant impact in the ballgame.
His vision, burst, and ability to break tackles stood out from the very beginning. He’s a sudden back who can stop and change directions, but he also runs with power. He’s not afraid of contact and can be so tough to wrap up and get to the ground.
DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!
According to FanDuel, the Georgia Bulldogs have -260 odds to reach the College Football Playoffs this season.
Early in the game, on a 4th and 1, Lamar took the carry, shifted through a hole and took off down the field for a big gain. He showed patience, burst, and the ability to fall forward at the end of runs. He a strong runner between the tackles and can get those tough, “dirty” yards that you have to be able to get in the SEC.
Later in the first half, Lamar took off for a 50+ yard run where he hit the hole hard and out-ran multiple North Gwinnett defenders down the field. At first it looked like he scored, but Lamar was ruled out of bounds at the 4-yard line.
The South Georgia back is naturally talented, competes every snap, and has more wiggle than you’d expect for someone over 200+ pounds. He’s a gifted back with really quick feet, a strong lower body, and enough speed to score from anywhere on the field.
Overall, even in a loss, it’s easy to see what the Georgia staff likes about their four-star running back commitment. He brings a lot of energy and leadership outside of his ability to make plays as a runner.
Lamar ran for around 100 yards on Friday night and did it against a really talented defense while still coming back from an injury.
In the end, it was an impressive night for Lamar who should be even better when he’s back to full strength.
