BREAKING: Media Makes Prediction for UGA Football's 2025 SEC Season

ATLANTA - Kirby Smart and UGA Football won the SEC Championship a season ago - something correctly predicted by the media before the season. The league’s media predicted the Dawgs will play for the SEC Championship in 2025 - and that the Texas Longhorns will win it.

BET MGM very narrowly favors the Longhorns (+250) over the Bulldogs (+300) to win the SEC title in 2025. Alabama (+500) and LSU (+750) are also favorably thought of in betting markets. But things fall precipitously after that with Ole Miss and Texas A&M both coming in with nearly double the odds (+1400) as LSU.

Texas will travel to Athens in November for one of the biggest games of the year in college football. It will be a rematch of the 2024 SEC Championship Game the Bulldogs won in overtime in Atlanta. Georgia also hosts Alabama in late September - another key SEC and national game.

This is the second year of the College Football Playoff's expanded 12-team field. Three SEC teams made it to the CFP a season ago.

The Bulldogs have only been picked to win the SEC three times in history by the media (2004, 2023 and 2024). Georgia has won the SEC five times since voting began in 1992. The lone time the Dawgs were picked to win the league with Kirby Smart not as head coach came in 2004 when the Dawgs finished second in the SEC East - going 10-2 in David Greene and David Pollack’s final seasons at UGA.

Alabama has been picked to win the SEC by the media 11 times since 2010. The Tide has won it seven times in that span. Georgia is the only school that has been picked more than once by the media to win the SEC since 2010.

Friday's announcement that Texas was picked by the media marks the first time an expansion team has ever been predicted to win the title. In fact, only the traditional six SEC powers - Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia and LSU - have ever been picked to win the league.

Georgia enters the 2025 season with high expectations once more. Kirby’s tenth season in Athens features seven home games - and neutral-site showdowns with two of the program’s three major rivals. UGA football will face the Gators in Jacksonville once again, but add a Black Friday fight with Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Both of those games are scheduled for 3:30 kickoffs on ABC.

The Bulldogs have two massive home games in 2025. Georgia will host Alabama on September 27. The two programs have combined to win five national titles since Alabama last visited Athens in 2015. Texas makes its first appearance at Sanford Stadium in program history. The two programs met in the 2024 SEC Championship Game in December. The Bulldogs beat Texas in overtime to win Georgia’s 15th SEC title - second most all time.

Kirby’s Dawgs look get back to the College Football Playoff in 2025. The Bulldogs fell to Notre Dame in January at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The loss concluded the Dawgs’ 11-3 season in 2024. As of mid July 2025, UGA is considered one of the favorites to win the national title according to BET MGM (Texas, +500 | Ohio State +525 | UGA +700 | Penn State +700).
