ATHENS - It appears things may be turning around for the Georgia Bulldog wide receivers.

Georgia’s wideouts dropped the ball far too often last season, giving Kirby Smart and Georgia football fans headaches all year long.

But things should be different in 2025. Arian Smith and his inconsistent hands are off to the NFL. Dom Lovett’s hands are no longer in Athens, either.

The Bulldogs upgraded the room in a major way as they added two dynamic pass-cathers out of the transfer portal in Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas

According to Georgia Bulldog safety KJ Bolden, those two are coming along just fine so far in spring practice.

“Those guys are monsters”, Bolden said. “Ive got to guard Zach every day. He’s a great player. He goes 110% every day and always gives you his best. Noah’s a big, tall receiver and you love those type of guys. He reminds me of Colbie Young. They both had to get used to the program when they got here because we do things different but they’ve bought in and should have a really good season.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the Golden State Warriors have +2100 odds to win the NBA Finals this summer.

“I definitely see an improvement from last years years drops”, Bolden added. “The receivers are great. We try to make it hard on them but they’ve made a lot of great catches and have been staying after practice. We’re going to see a big year from them.”

While Georgia fans will love to hear that, Kirby Smart didn’t exactly say the same about his young freshman. Of course, these early enrollees should still be in high school. They’re talented, but they’re still young and have to adapt both in the classroom and on the practice field. It’s not easy, and Smart is hoping they can get in shape and be in a position to help them this fall. However, it’s clear that group, as expected, has a long way to go.

“They got to get in shape. They're constantly tired at practice. They got their hands on their hips, exhausted. I think there's a little anxiety in that, so it's not like it's all they're not taking more reps. It's like the older players might have 25 reps in a practice. They might have 20, but they can't sustain their 20 reps. Throughout practice, they get really tired, so they're trying. There's no lack of effort, and they're talented, but they got a long way to go in terms of learning what to do, and that's our job. Our job is to get them ready to go. They are not where they need to be.”

Luckily, the Dawgs don’t necessarily need the freshmen to play in September. That group will make an impact at some point, but the Bulldogs have plenty of experience and talent towards the top of the depth chart.

Zachariah Branch, Noah Thomas, Colbie Young, Dillon Bell, London Humphries, Nitro Tuggle, Cole Speer, Sacovie White and others are all looking to prove to the coaching staff that they can make an impact at the start of the season. The Bulldogs have depth, but at some point, two or three of these freshmen will be ready to see the field.

What’s clear is that the Georgia Bulldogs should see a much improved wide receiver unit in 2025 than they did last year.
