ATHENS - Spring practice is underway for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs, meaning several top targets will be in town over the next several weeks to come watch the Dawgs.
There were plenty of in-state targets in town on Tuesday to watch Georgia’s first spring practice including Houston County (GA) safety Jordan Smith who broke down his visit with Dawg Post.
Smith, one of Georgia’s top defensive back targets in the 2026 class, had a lot to say after watching the Bulldogs take the practice field.
“When watching practice I learned a lot about some of coach Smart’s philosophies on coaching on the defensive side”, the four-star told Dawg Post. “I’ll say my biggest takeaway was how the players responded when being coached. They weren’t getting defensive or insulted. They applied what the coaches told them and did it right the next time. It shows the trust they have in the staff. The standard there also stood out and that’s definitely something that catches my eye every time with Georgia.”
As a junior last fall for the Houston County Bears, Smith made an impressive 85 tackles, three TFLs, and two INTs in coverage with seven more pass-breakups. He also added one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Smith is currently ranked as the No. 7 safety prospect and the No. 106 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 class.

In other news, the Georgia staff extended an offer to a new in-state defensive back on Tuesday in Kell (GA) standout, Jowell Combay.
One of the top two-way athletes out of Cobb County last fall, Combay was a do-it-all playmaker for the Harrison Hoyas, making an impressive 93 tackles and three INTs last fall as a junior. He also helped out on offense as he picked up around 400 receiving yards with two more scores. He brings a lengthy 6-foot-2 190-pound frame and is seeing his stock take off on the recruiting trail. After a visit to Athens, this new Kell Longhorn athlete now holds an offer from Georgia. He’s also added offers from Alabama, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Missouri, Georgia Tech, Maryland, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, among others.
“The Georgia offer brought a big grin on my face”, Combay told Dawg Post. “I’m humbled to be in this position and UGA is the home team so it feels even more special. Everyone knows UGA is the standard for college football and that’s what makes or breaks certain guys. I want a good education and a career in the NFL and UGA is one of the few schools that offer that!”
