ATHENS - He may work for Fox covering the Fox Sports' Big Noon Kickoff, but former Alabama football star Mark Ingram still knows SEC football.

The 2009 Heisman Trophy winner may not have played for Kirby Smart himself, but it’s clear Smart made a lasting impact on the former Crimson Tide standout.

Before Georgia’s 2024 SEC Championship game against Texas, Ingram predicted that Smart’s Bulldogs would come out on top while covering the Boise State/UNLV game the night prior.

“I know Kirby Smart personally”, Ingram said. “He was my defensive coordinator at Alabama. When he smells blood in the water, he attacks. I think that will be the difference in the game. Them putting pressure on Quinn Ewers and that high-ankle sprain.”

As it turned out, Ingram was right. Ewers did throw for an impressive 358 yards, but he also threw two interceptions and only led the Horns to one touchdown. The Georgia defense sacked Ewers six times with five different Bulldog defenders getting him to the ground.

According to FanDuel, the Los Angeles Rams have -175 odds to win the NFC West this year.

Kirby Smart and Glenn Schumann smelled blood and attacked. They found the weakness, game-planned around it, and won their second SEC Championship in three years.

Throughout the season we’ve seen them settle in, adjust, and adapt. This team doesn’t mind playing from behind. They almost thrive in it in a way. They feel you out, then they dissect, find the blood and attack. For the 2021 and 2022 Bulldogs, they punched you in the mouth to start, made you bleed early on, and then just ate your face off.

Those were killers.

The 2023 Bulldogs were vicious too, but this 2024 team likes to fool around a little. It takes them four quarters to finish teams off. But when the blood’s in the water, these Dawgs eat.

The Dawgs smelled blood when they took on Texas. They ate and they won. Now, they’re hoping either Notre Dame or Indiana will be dripping some blood when they come down to New Orleans. If the Dawgs can get healthier and use their much-needed rest to their advantage, they’ll be starving two weeks from now.

These Dawgs are out for blood, and hunting season is around the corner.
