BREAKING: Athens Court Makes Decision in UGA Football RB Trevor Etienne DUI Case
ATHENS - DUI charges filed against UGA Football RB Trevor Etienne filed in March have been dropped.
The Athens Banner-Herald reported that Etienne was in court on Wednesday regarding the matter. The Florida transfer had been charged with DUI, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane/improper driving on the road and affixing materials that reduce visibility of windows/windshield.
The dropped DUI charge was a so-called “less safe” charge which involves the person arrested having blood alcohol level lower than .08.

Police alleged that Etienne had been going going 80 to 90 mph in a 50-mph zone and twice crossed over a double yellow line to pass vehicles. Etienne admitted to authorities that he drank three beers “way earlier” before driving. Etienne is not of legal age to drink in Georgia.
Kirby Smart said in the spring that he was going to let the legal process play out before announcing discipline for the running back.
"As we also know, kids sometimes don't make the best decisions," Smart said of Etienne. "The older you get, sometimes the tougher the consequences are for your mistakes. He's not going to let this mistake define him. He's embarrassed. He's upset. He knows he made a mistake. It's a teaching moment, and we hope he gets better from it.”
The dropped charges clear the way for Etienne to now possibly play rather than be suspended for the Dawgs’ season opener against Clemson on August 31 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The game will be broadcast on ABC at Noon.
