ATHENS - No. 1 UGA Football’s destruction of the Florida Gators on Saturday was the most-watched college football game of the weekend.

The Bulldogs beat the Gators 43-20 in Jacksonville. It was Kirby Smart and his Dawgs’ third win in a row over the Gators and the sixth in the last seven years. The broadcast of the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is the only game this season to win the weekend for CBS, which loses the rights to all SEC games at the conclusion of this season.

Georgia-Florida has been a staple of CBS’s yearly slate of SEC games since 1996. Only once, in 2002, has Georgia-Florida not been broadcast by that network in what has become a traditional 3:30 kickoff spot.

Just under six million viewers watched the blowout. That means that a million viewers more tuned into Georgia-Florida than the No. 2 game of the weekend - NBC’s Ohio State-Wisconsin matchup. It is the sixth time that Georgia-Florida has had an audience over five million viewers on record. The 2023 edition is the fifth most-watched game of all time in the series. It is also the No. 16 most-watched game of this college football season so far.

Georgia has played in three of the 20 most-watched games this season so far.

The Dawgs return to CBS this Saturday for the afternoon portion of a network doubleheader. No. 1 Georgia will take on No. 14 Missouri. That game leads into LSU-Alabama, which will kick off at 7:45.

CBS put a six-day hold on Georgia’s game with No. 11 Ole Miss for next Saturday. If both the Rebels and Dawgs win their games over the weekend, CBS will all but certainly select that game as its SEC Game of the Week. It would kickoff at 3:30 from Sanford Stadium. Meanwhile, the UGA-Tennessee game will also be considered for CBS in a few weeks. That game will be played at Neyland Stadium the Saturday before Thanksgiving. A poor slate of SEC games means it is likely the frontrunner to be the CBS game that week as well.

Georgia’s final game of the season, the game against Georgia Tech at Mark Richt Field is controlled by Disney and could be on ABC, ESPN or even ESPN2. More often than not ABC has broadcast Clean Old Fashioned Hate in the afternoon while in Atlanta.
