ATHENS - Your 7-0 back-to-back national champion Georgia Bulldogs are the No. 6 team in college football.

Sounds crazy, right?

Well not according to former Florida Gators head coach and current ESPN college football analyst, Dan Mullen.

Apparently, the former Florida coach is a little salty as it relates to the Georgia Bulldogs. The ‘Dawgs had a BYE week, but Mullen doesn’t care. He thinks the Georgia Bulldogs, who haven’t lost a game in almost two calendar years, is the No. 6 team in the country.

Listen, Dan. This is college football. The top dog stays on top until they’re knocked off their throne. I don’t make the rules. That’s just how it works.

Now, has Georgia looked like the best team in the country all season long? Absolutely not.

Will they be No. 1 when the initial CFP rankings come out? Maybe not.

But the Bulldogs have won 23 straight games. They deserve to be No. 1 right now. They messed around with Auburn and South Carolina, but they dominated both games in the second half.

It may not look as easy as it has over the last two years, but this Bulldog team simply isn’t as good as they have been for the past two years. And that’s alright.

But to put them at No. 6?? The worst undefeated team left in college football? Give me a break...

Here’s Mullen’s latest top 10...

Mullen’s Week 8 Top 10

1. Ohio State

2. Florida State

3. Michigan

4. Washington

5. Oklahoma

6. Georgia

7. Texas

8. Oregon

9. Alabama

10. Ole Miss

Let’s break this down real quick.

Ohio State’s defense is outstanding. Yes, Penn State’s offense is fraudulent, but you have to give the Buckeye defense credit. They play fast, physical, fundamental football. They don’t have a quarterback, and the offense looks ugly at times, but their defense has been excellent. Still, there’s no way the Buckeyes are the No. 1 team in the country with they quarterback play they’ve had recently.

Florida State at No. 2 makes sense. They’ve beat some good teams and have looked good doing it. They have plenty of talent on the roster and are playing good football. I get it.

Undefeated Michigan looks great, but we’re at the end of October and they still haven’t played a quality opponent. To their credit, they’ve dominated the opponents on their cupcake schedule. That’s what they need to do, and that’s what they’ve done. But do we really know how good Michigan is yet? I don’t think we do. Also, Georgia’s win over Kentucky was more impressive than any win Michigan’s had so far this year. But sure, put Michigan over Georgia.

Washington barely squeaked by 1-5 Arizona State. I know a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon after their big win over Oregon, and this was 100% a letdown game after that emotional win last week, but this was an UGLY win. The Sun Devils out-played them. Arizona State had more first downs, total yards, rushing yards, and had three less turnovers than Washington’s “elite” offense. A win is a win, and the Huskies get credit for that, but to put them over Georgia after this weekend is just nonsense.

Then theres Oklahoma. They have that win over Texas, and that’s the reason Mullen has them over Georgia. The Sooners are a great story and have a really good quarterback. The defense is improving. I get the hype. Still. Only someone anti-Georgia would put them above the two-time champions.

Thankfully, Mullen’s rankings don’t matter. But it’s clear his rankings are based off who has the best wins. There are plenty of other analysts who feel the same.

But if/when Georgia beats Florida, again, what will Mullen do? Will he put Georgia at No.1 if they beat Missouri the week after that? What if Georgia beats Ole Miss the week after that, too?

Rankings don’t matter right now. This will all sort itself out.

What I do know, is if Georgia beats Florida, then beats Missouri and Ole Miss at home, and then beats Tennessee in Knoxville, they have to be No. 1 heading into the SEC title game. Win that game, and they’ll be the No. 1 seed in the Playoffs.

No rankings needed. If Georgia wins out, they’ll be No. 1 when the final Playoff rankings are announced.
